Mr. Ypsi

Reminder to NCC and Wheaton partisans - it ain't a two-team race YET!

NCC still has to hold home-field against IWU Saturday (and Wheaton do the same to Carthage), then Wheaton win in Rock Island while NCC does in their neighbor in Elmhurst.  IF all that happens, then NCC @ Wheaton on Nov. 6 is the presumptive title game - not before! ;)

I confess, I think all of the above will happen, but I'm waiting for the games on the fields!

Pat Coleman

True, but I think that the 10 spots Coe fell is pretty significant, considering they lost to a team that our voters now consider ranked.

Can't find it at the moment, but I think I remember seeing something about an injury to one of Wesleyan's better players. True? Not true?

You're probably thinking of key running back Eli Williams.  I, too, saw it here, but cannot find confirmation (or denial) on the IWU site.

A direct quote from "Titans Stave Off Elmhurst in Football, 30-26" on the IWU website:

..."Senior Eli Williams ran for 25 yards on seven carries and caught seven balls for 65 yards before leaving the game in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury. Lanter finished with 83 yards on 14 carries."  No other information provided.

I agree completely, but if WC can't get up for this one at McCully on Saturday night after losing two out of the last three to CC, I would be shocked.  Also, I think that NCC still feels a bit slighted by not making the playoffs last year, and may be out to extract a 'pound of flesh' from IWU for the OT loss in Bloomington last year.  Both games should be great.  I'm going with the favorites (NCC and WC), but on any given Saturday in the CCIW...  Let's not forget that EC has to get by an upset-minded MU team in Decatur (see 2009 MU v. IWU).

I would be very surprised to see either Wheaton or NCC have a let down this week. Wheaton has fallen to Carthage the last two times the Redmen visited Wheaton so I think they will be ready. NCC isn't likely to forget last years game vs IWU this week. I fully expect both Wheaton and NCC to to win this week.

Did you mean that you expect Wheaton and NCC to win this week?

NCC learned last season how a late season conference loss can sting. The objective this season is to go 1-0 every week. They are four key games left. No one is thinking about Wheaton yet.

HELP WANTED:

Looking for Pollsters for a "soon to be unveiled" D3 TOP 25 FAN POLL.

Publishing site: www.uwwfootball.blogspot.com

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Commit to submit a ballot ranking the D3 Teams 1-25 by stated deadline. I'm thinking that will be midnight on Mondays.
2. Research the teams and try to be as unbiased as possible in ranking them.
3. Think through your own philosophy as to how much to weigh previous ranking, won/loss record, your sense as to who would win head to head, national performances in recent years, quality wins, and whatever reasonable criteria you care to choose.
4. Submit a ballot EVERY WEEK by the deadline. Missing a deadline will be cause to forfeit your spot. Create and submit your ballot BEFORE viewing the D3football.com poll. You can look at previous weeks polls to get you started if you are having a hard time filling out the last few slots.

PURPOSE OF POLL

This poll is to promote meaningful and fun discussion on d3boards.com.  It is simply something that will be fun to contrast with D3football.com's poll. D3football.com's poll is the one legitimate poll we have in D3 football in my opinion.  This poll is not even intended to become #2. I just think it would be an interesting point of comparison and discussion.

HOW TO APPLY

Send me a private message. In your message indicate:
1. you are applying to be a pollster.
2. What team/conference you follow.
3. Whether you can submit a poll as early as this Thursday. (That is not mandatory, if everyone can we may do one this week).

WHO WILL BE CHOSEN?

The first 25 respondents will be our initial group of pollsters.  This group will remain the D3 FOOTBALL FAN POLL TOP 25 pollsters unless they resign their position or miss a deadline.  Pollsters, I will never post your names on the boards.  If you choose to, that is fine. If you are beyond the first 25 responses, your name will be placed on a "waiting list".  If there are fewer than 25 respondents by midnight on Wednesday, we will go with what we have and continue to have "open" slots to be filled.

Remember FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!  ;)

For some reason, I lost karma for stating the obvious, but to back up my comment, I provide the following direct quote from "Lisle Product McLeod a Big Part of North Central College's Defense":

"McLeod and his teammates have Saturday, Oct. 23 circled on their calendars. That's when they host Illinois Wesleyan, which advanced to the playoffs last season because it defeated the Cardinals in CCIW play.

'We play them next week for Homecoming,' he said, 'so that will be a big game. We definitely want to get back at them.'"

Thanks ILGator for the link.

fans were actually cheering for the Vikings to score a TD at the end of the fourth quarter against the Wheaton third string. If having the opposing fans cheer for your team because they feel sorry for it isn't the epitome of humiliation, I don't know what is.

I realize that the intention of the Wheaton fans was good, but this makes me want to see NPU drub Wheaton on the basketball court this winter all that much more.

I think the fans were actually cheering for the 3rd string defense to keep NP out of the end zone.  At least that's what was going on in the section I was sitting in.

No, the NPU alumna to whom I spoke said that the Wheaton fans around her were clearly cheering for NPU to score against the Wheaton third-stringers.

Not much to say about Saturdays game. NCC D is very fast.  the back up QB who replaced an injured Hochaday was a lot of fun to watch. He really had some zip on his passes and was elusive when he ran, and was pressured. Did not see the three guys that Andone spoke about, but there was still some interesting chatter in the north endzone :o. Crackel seemed to improve as the game went on, and they do have a very solid running game. No offense to who posted about the big TE TD run, but anybody that wide open should have scored. Given a ten yard head start, as he was that open, I could have run for a TD, as long as it was down hill. I did see some Wheaton coaches there scouting, but i guess we  wont know their thoughts  on what they saw, until November.
