https://hansenratings.github.io/2025%20Week%2011.html

I know one thing he had the Carroll/IWU game wrong. ;D

Not really. He gave Carroll a 36% chance to win. And had he known Smythe wasn't playing that likely would have been higher.

I don't know much about Logan's algorithm. Does it really go into that much depth for each game? Or does he personally intervene and tinker with it to account for key personnel losses (since Dermot Smythe is the very definition of a "key personnel loss")? Seems like an awful lot of extra work when you are talking about, what, 115 D3 football games every week? And, if I remember correctly, Logan's a family man, so his spare time is probably limited.

Yes I think it just shows key players missing will have an effect on the outcome and it's very tough to know that info unless you have inside information, especially the first game that player misses. No I don't think he is looking at the players for each game. Most likely different current team statistics and historical data.

Regarding the Isthmus.

Isthmus Bowl

We know WashU/Augie winner will represent CCIW.

In the WIAC these are the games this week.

UWL @ UWSP
UWW @ UWO
UWP @ UWEC
UWRF @ UWS

UWRF has clinched the AQ. If UWL, UWW and UWP win I'm assuming they get a at large bid.
That would leave UWO and UWS tied in conference. Not sure what their tie breaker is.  UWS beat UWO.

OPOW - Carroll's TE Reed Breckheimer
DPOW - Carroll's DB Amarrion Bridges
STPOW - NCC's WR Thomas Skokna

NCC's WR Thomas Skokna, the presumptive CCIW Offensive POY, also getting it done as a punt returner on special teams.

Rather embarrassing for the CCIW should WashU beat Augie and go to the Isthmus Bowl.
Congratulations WashU. Thanks for representing the CCIW so admirably. Your conference affiliation is hereby revoked. 🫠

If it's a two-way tie in football and not broken with head-to-head, then they are doing tiebreakers wrong. :)

More embarrassing for the CCIW is the record against Washington University.

7-0 vs. Carroll
6-1 vs. Illinois Wesleyan
7-0 vs. Carthage
7-0 vs. Elmhurst
6-1 vs. Millikin
7-0 vs. North Park
5-1 vs. Augustana

1-13 against two of the best programs in the nation, year in and year out, but nonetheless.

Otherwise, no hard feelings...

Go Bears, Beat Augustana!

I'm not sure why it would be embarrassing for the CCIW if Wash U represents the league in the Isthmus Bowl. After all, the Bears have done so twice before; that means that half of the Isthmus Bowl's four-year history has featured Wash U as the CCIW's representative. The Bears have finished in the top third in five of the six years that they've been in the league, and in the 2025 preseason coaches poll the CCIW braintrust forecast that the Bears would make it six out of seven by slotting them -- you guessed it -- third behind North Central and Wheaton.

If the CCIW's nine full members thought it was relevant to consider where the Bears were going to finish this season, they wouldn't have shown Wash U the door in the first place. But they didn't, so they did. ;)

I'm not sure why this is embarrassing, either. While the jury was out as to how well Wash U would compete in the CCIW when it first came in, the Bears immediately disabused CCIW football fans of the notion that the Bears would be anything other than an upper-tier team. And because that was established quickly and then maintained, again, it's hard to see why anyone should be red-faced about the likelihood of an Isthmus Bowl bid for Wash U that was so predictable that the coaches, in fact, went right ahead and predicted it. ;)

Ok ---I will change it to this---the Institutions that voted to rid themselves of WashU should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. (since it looks like they are ducking competition i.e. "if you can't beat them ---kick them out").  IMHO.

I know, I know, there are sooooo many reasons to bring in a full member, that dismissing an academically elite very competitive football program makes sense.

Gregory Sager

If people want to think that the CCIW is kicking out Wash U in order to duck good competition, let them. Who cares what they think? We know better.

Also, Wash U isn't being kicked out because CUW is coming in. Those are two completely unrelated moves on the part of the conference. The parting with the Bears was decided long before the initial talks with CUW took place.

Agreed! By more embarrassing, I meant to suggest that if the league were to feel embarrassed about something, this would be it.  Otherwise, the 7-year period in which the Bears played as part of the CCIW will soon be resigned to the dust heap of history.

Gregory Sager

I think that there may have been a bit of a surprise within this league, both in the sense that Wash U was very good when it came into the league in 2017, but also in that it was able to sustain that high level of competence throughout its entire stay in the CCIW. I wonder if this might be due to the fact that the UAA school with the more familiar football program to CCIW folks, the University of Chicago, has traditionally been more akin to a second-division CCIW outfit in terms of annual competence. But looking at the H2H history between the two UAA rivals, it's clear that the Bears have typically been a stronger program than the Maroons over the years, so nobody should've based his guess as to how Wash U would fare in CCIW play by thinking that the Bears would be on the same level as the U of C.

This is basically what I meant by my post. While it may be interpreted that way, I don't think it's primarily a case of ducking competition. But I do think it's an embarrassment to the CCIW to have a member be good enough to represent the conference in a bowl game in which the sound of the final buzzer means that team's conference membership is immediately revoked and the team is a conference member no more. Like I said—-thanks for representing us so well. Now, you're out. 🫠

I mean, UChicago baseball got the boot from the Midwest Conference recently because a bunch of the coaches (led by Beloit's coach/AD) thought they were too good/a threat to win the auto bid. So they voted them out in baseball, but the MWC still kept them in football (you won't find a more sensitive bunch than baseball coaches...). Keep in mind, UChicago did not win the MWC tournament during their time in the league, but they did have some quite good squads and individuals during that time.

So UChicago baseball rejoined the UAA in 2025, and in its first year, qualified at-large for the NCAA postseason for the first time in program history. They proceeded to knock Beloit out of the playoffs and reached the regional championship decider game.
