Looks like NCC has mounted a nice comeback! From what I heard Auggie looked like, well, Auggie. Are they that good, or was NP that bad, considering they started off 3 & 0. As far as Auggie/Carthage, Id pick Auggie in that one, they kicked the crap out of the conference champs last year so i would expect the same again. :

Not to take anything away from NCC, it has been a nice comeback.  Especially on defense.  But 4 Wheaton turnovers in the 2nd half, including an interception return for a TD have helped out a ton.

I really think it was a little of both.  The O looked just as strong as last week against UWP.  Augie had 412 yards rushing, but they really didn't have the ball much in the 3rd quarter.  They scored a defensive TD with a 45 yd INT return and NP was actually burning some time off the clock with a few of their drives (a la Augie).  Obviously it takes a lot to rack up those yards even though they were limited to a time dominance by NP in that 3rd.  I am sure that Barnes will have the Vikes chomping at the bit to take down the Redmen.  There were some pieces that Barnes will want to hammer home during practice (blown special teams play on a 2 point conversion play).  Plus, the D will want to reprove themselves after all the yards that they gave up in last years contest.

Touchdown NCC... with 1:35 remaining.  35-26 NCC.  Game over for Wheaton with a 9 point difference.

I hate saying it...  ;)  congrats to NCC to a tough fought win.  Wheaton had it's chances, but WAY to many turnovers cost them too much.  Still a long season remaining.  Anything can happen.  Who knows... maybe they can fight their way back to co-champs again.

Brother!  Another Chupp interception to end the game.   5 interceptions for Chupp in the game.  OUCH!  I'll bet he has more interceptions in the first 4 games than all of last year.  I don't know about others, but Chupp really seems to be struggling this year.  I'd be interested in hearing how those who attended the game think.  Broadcasters mention they thought he was trying to guide his throws too much... I don't know... without seeing it myself I just don't know.  Regardless, he isn't clicking like he did last year.  Guess having 2 stud receivers makes a huge difference.

Doesn't last year's CCIW race remind you of the AL East/wildcard race this year?  I tell you what, I don't like the prospect of Augie going up to play Carthage after this big win, let alone what type of drive Wheaton will have at the last game of the season.

Jeez...
1) Give NCC some credit... they made the most of the turnovers and cashed in, 2) despite the turnovers, Wheaton still took it to the very end, 3) Wheaton had some holes to fill coming into the season and tonight it showed, and 4) It wasn't 28 straight points

augievike93,

It's funny that you mention that bad PAT snap. Augie's long-snapper is Jeff Koopman and I was standing next to one of his high school coaches at the game today. He immediately pointed out to me that it wasn't Koopman on that bad snap. I wasn't paying close enough attention myself, but from the look of it, I'm guessing he was right. I don't know who it was, but given that Gelsomino is listed behind Koopman on the two-deep, it must have been at least the third-string guy. I'm not sure what the idea is on the punt formation, but their punter Brandon Watts is also a wide receiver and a pretty good athlete (he started out at Western Illinois). I'm guessing that they're just giving the defense something to think about, seeing as he's definitely a threat to take off running. He does have a heck of a leg though. As far as Augie's pass coverage today, it was obvious early on that all they had to do was take away the short stuff and North Park wouldn't be able to throw deep. Haehn was battling low snaps all day and although they only had one sack, I think they had decent pressure on him most of the day. I'm not sure they'll be able to get away with that against passers like Kniss and Chupp who are also protected by much better o-lines. Hope I'm wrong.

Mugsy,
You know it.  There is just no way that you can play like that in the CCIW (or any other league for that matter) and not have it come back to haunt you.  28 point in the last 16 1/2 minutes certainly isn't they way that you finish off a team, let alone a team who has emerged to be a tough one over the last two years.

Too depressed by Wheaton mistakes... I'm signing off. :(

From what I have heard from friends at Wheaton is the o-line has been the biggest challenge for the coaching staff.
