Wheaton Football is playing a game in May overseas in Portugal. The practices and game will be a huge advantage for the Thunder as they look to replace some key players from last year. Great opportunity for the 70 or so who are going.

NCC2010

NCC held their final spring practice this past Saturday and it was open to fans, families, etc.

Only helmets so I did not focus much on the trenches, lot of 1on1 and 7on7 work.

Demir Ashiru took all the 1st team reps at QB, Calvin Lavery took the 2nd team reps.

Lot of ups and downs with Ashiru's performance, made some really great throws but also had a quite a few throw aways or sacks taken. Seemed to hold the ball for a long time frequently, which could mean he is still learning the offense or the defense was just playing well.  I think one of the incoming freshman have a chance to win the starting job in the fall, but hard to tell only seeing 1 practice. Ashiru was clearly the most talented QB out there on Saturday, for what its worth.

The best player on the field by far was Thomas Skokna.  Made some really tough catches and was unguardable in man coverage.  I think he has an All-American level season as long as the QB can get it to him.

Offensive line is beginning to take shape, and my guess of the starting 5 will be Jerred Durian (started last year at center), John Golden (started a handful of games at G/C when guys sat with injuries), Tyson Cramer (was the swing tackle the past 2 seasons), and then Cortez Jones and transfer from Ohio University Maverick Ohle.

Ohle was a 2-time all state defensive end in high school at Naperville Central before redshirting at Ohio last year. The coaches want his athleticism on the offensive line though.

Heading into the fall, settling on the QB will obviously be the biggest question to answer and ultimately determine how far this team can go.  All the other pieces appear to be there.

Hi, everyone.

I don't have any details beyond what is in the post, but I ask that you please keep Coach Jeff and the Thorne family in your prayers. His faith is as strong as any person I've ever met, and the power of prayer is real.

Wheaton up 26-0 at the half against the Portuguese All Star team. So far the game looks pretty much like that sounds.

Wheaton finished the game against the Portugal All Star team with a 54-0 win. They had a couple defensive touchdowns mixed in. They are in Portugal through the end of the week doing service projects and touring the area. A great experience for these players and some good work in the practices and game to develop the new players who will contribute this fall. Opener @Mt Union is less than 4 months away.

*** The NCC football uniforms, as well as those for all the other sports, may soon require a name change. While the move, as reported in the Chicago Tribune, is nowhere near finalized and requires further discussion and approval the NCC Board, as part of a larger strategic planning process, is strongly considering a potential name change from North Central College to Naperville University!

I suppose it makes sense. Would be interested to see the article if you've got a link. I can't find it anywhere.

Actually saw it in a NC article that referenced "as reported in the Chicago Tribune." Googled but couldn't find any actual article from the Tribune.

They should change it back to Plainfield College.

One of the names reportedly under consideration was North Central College in Naperville.
Wonder where someone got an idea like that? 🤗 😏

The Third Division

It should be "The College of North Central That Is North Central of Absolutely Nothing"

Pat Coleman

While I would agree that the North Central University in Minneapolis is a better fit for the label -- for as long as it manages to remain open -- it can't be said that North Central College is North Central of absolutely nothing. To make sure I wasn't crazy, I took a U.S. map and divided it in thirds, East-Central-West, and half, North-South.

Naperville does fit where North and Central overlap.

Plainfield changed the name to Northwestern, a reference to the Northwestern Territory of Ohio, Illinois, Michigan before changing again to North Central.
