In deference to Carthage fans, I must point out that I round off the Hansen Ratings predicted scores, so therefore Logan's algorithm actually thinks that the Firebirds will be good for 0.3 points on Saturday.

Wheaton 47, Augustana 18  (WC 97%, AC 3%)
Washington MO 35, Carroll 15  (WUSTL 90%, CU 10%)
North Central 63, Carthage 0  (NCC 100%, CC 0%)
Illinois Wesleyan 44, Elmhurst 14  (IWU 97%, EU 3%)
North Park 32, Millikin 18  (NPU 82%, MU 18%)

Home teams are in bold.

CCI Double Ya.  Back at it again.  Ouch.

Congrats to Heff and the Bluejays on a opening day win.  While it is nice to pick up a win and feel good about the team,  other than possibly Millikin,  Rockford is not really reminiscent of what the Jays will see the rest of the season.  EC improves to 3-0 vs. RC all time.

It is something for Heff and the staff to build on, but I fear it may be a long year for EC during the conference slate.  Most of the CCIW defense's will have a stronger pass rush,  making Odom have less time to distribute the ball.

Some of the turnovers could be opening day jitters,  but the EC defense looked porous at times.

We should do a poll to see how many of the five games people think will result in the winner doubling up (or more) the loser.

The results of these matchups last 3 years.

2024:NCC 63 Carthage 0
2023:NCC 70 Carthage 0
2022:NCC 59 Carthage 7

2024:Wheaton 42 Augie 3
2023:Wheaton 41 Augie 34
2022:Wheaton 38 Augie 28

2024:WashU 35 Carroll 7
2023:WashU 35 Carroll 23
2022:WashU 37 Carroll 7

2024:IWU 55 Elmhurst 7
2023:IWU 49 Elmhurst 13
2022:IWU 21 Elmhurst 7

2024:NPU 44 Millikin 0
2023:NPU 38 Millikin 0
2022:Millikin 23 NPU 21

To me Millikin is the wildcard because of all the turnover. Augie has managed not to get blown out by Wheaton every year.
We do have some upsets that pop up once in awhile.
For example, Carthage and Elmhurst upset NPU last year.

I'm down for that! But I don't want any pedantic "2 X 0 = 0" bull****e!

On a related note, Carthage's score this weekend will be undefined.  Sorry, I'm a math teacher.

As the husband of a math teacher... I felt that.

From the press release:

The Falcons sponsor 30 sports overall – 25 NCAA sports, two emerging NCAA sports and three non-NCAA sports. CUW sponsors 22 of the CCIW's 26 sports.

Concordia sponsors shooting and triathlon, but not bass or walleye fishing.

I did not realize that triathlon was a college sport, but I learn something every day.

CUW announcement

It hadn't occurred to me before that CUW will be the first new member of the CCIW since North Park joined in 1962. Three schools have re-joined the CCIW since then (Elmhurst, Wheaton, and Carroll), but they were all CCIW members prior to 1962 that subsequently came back into the fold.

Only four schools have been members throughout the entire history of the league, dating back to its founding in 1946: Augustana, Millikin, North Central, and Illinois Wesleyan. (Carthage dropped out in the '50s and came back in one year prior to North Park joining, while Illinois College and Lake Forest left and never returned, IC in '53 and LFC in '63.)

This is a very stable league in terms of membership.
