My recommendation for improving NPI

Change win/sos from 40/60 to 30/70.
Change home win multiplier from .9 to 1.0.

I understand rewarding an away win. I don't understand punishing a home win. In the home win I believe you should capture the true value of beating your opponent which is their win value (Win + SOS + QWB).

The win value for Wheaton is 78.97. For NCC win at home you deduct 10% so game NPI is 71.073. Difference of over 7 points. If you divide that by 5 or 6 games your talking over 1 point on overall NPI.

If you can't go 1.0 then something lower then 10%.
Another thing maybe that can be looked at is do you have to apply the home/away factor against all 3 components, Win + SOS + QWB. A win is a win, maybe just apply the home and away factor to SOS or SOS+QWB. We think the win is tougher on the road we'll goose up your opponents SOS.


If you look at home wins across the D3 universe they look like they're capped because even if the NPI increases  your only using 60% of NPI and then you deduct 10% from the win value (40 + SOS + QWB).

Here is a great example of what current formula gives us.
Bethel beat St. John's (4-1) at home and Gustavus (1-4) on the road.
St. John's NPI = 62.525 #29.  Gustavus NPI = 42.842 #166.
Almost a 20 point difference in NPI. 137 position difference in rank.

Bethel Game NPI for beating St. John's = 71.681
Bethel Game NPI for beating Gustavus = 72.276

These may change but it doesn't matter, assume 2 teams who end the season with these NPI's. You can just plug numbers into the formula and see the different results.

Worst part of it is that it's Millikin's Homecoming.

I'm sure that there's a lot of ticked-off MU alumni today.

This is what you get when you schedule Homecoming in the latter half of October. The temp may be decent, as it is today, but weather's still more of a roll of the dice this late.

Well, today it's NPU's turn to run the gauntlet ... and thus it's my turn as broadcaster to put the lipstick on the pig.

I just want the Vikings to get through today healthy. I'm even less concerned with whether or not the Vikings can beat the 62-point spread, or whatever ridiculous number Logan's posted for this game (I'm not gonna bother scrolling back to look it up). I just want North Park to be able to field the same team next week that's taking the field today against NCC. That's the important thing. The injury toll that NPU has suffered to date, especially on the O-line, is bad enough as it is.

Millikin was competitive in the 3rd quarter, but couldn't hang around with IWU and lost their Homecoming game to the Titans, 49-27.

Carthage was right with Wheaton for a half, but Wheaton pulled away in the second half and won at McCully, 47-21.

Elmhurst @ Wash U was delayed by inclement weather.

The one close game was in Rock Island, where Augie came from behind to beat Carroll, 31-24.

Yep Carroll/Augie was the usual back and forth between these two. With the game tied 24-24, Augie scored the winning TD with 59 seconds left.

Elmhurst/WashU started late due to weather. They're just in 1rst Q. WashU 7-0
