I should've noticed that error of Mark's regarding who is ultimately responsible for the configuration of a two-deep, Pat, but I let myself get distracted by his colorful metaphor regarding signal flares in fundaments.

Yes, and with specific regard to appropriately green signal flares, I suspect the SID and coach might have collaborated in using some Barium Chlorate Ba(ClO3)2 which produces a very bright classic exhibition green in order to possibly engage in a little gamesmanship in this case. 😏

That's ridiculous. There are no calculated attempts on the part of SIDs, in collaboration with coaching staffs or otherwise, to game the system by disseminating two-deeps that are crafted to deceive opposing coaches.

As Pat said, coaches put together the two-deeps; SIDs merely distribute them. And I'm not saying that there aren't less-than-honest head coaches (as opposed to merely optimistic ones in the case of player injuries) who play fast-and-loose with two-deeps. But SIDs have professional standards to which they are required to adhere -- standards that don't include conspiring to lie to other schools.

#1:
The "two deep" in IWU's game notes is created before the first game of the season and isn't updated.  It's a preseason depth chart to give fans/media personnel an idea who the top guys are coming in. It's not meant to be a week-to-week/real time thing...and not billed as such.

IWU Associate AD for Communications and Marketing Katie Gonzales is a really good person, and is really good at her job.  She is deeply respected across the Division III community and is a leader within her peer group.  For example, was named President of the Division III Sports Directors of American (D3SIDA) in June 2025.

Katie doesn't deserve to have her integrity questioned in this forum...or any forum. 

But I guess that is more of the same from long-time chat board clown Mark/AndOne/NextManUp/GusD.

SID's are heroes. They do all the work and usually get none of the credit. They often only get noticed when something goes wrong. The amount of information they process every week and disseminate is impressive. Just read the game notes for each contest each week. Every SID in the CCIW does quality work with multiple sports in season at the same time. I have nothing but respect and admiration for every SID.
