Yep, as Pat said, way cheaper than a full semester. This isn't a rarity, it actually happens quite regularly across D3.

Yes my youngest chose to come back one more semester as a 5th year senior due to Covid. The D3 landscape changed for a couple years because of the number of 5th year seniors that came back. Costs will vary by school. Sometimes the football part of the brain overwhelms the finance part.🤷🏻

NCC2010

Anyone looking for highlights, Wheaton posted some from their sidelines on X.

The Wilson interception was not a good throw.

In my opnion it was more of a great play by Harvan than a bad throw by Wilson. Again, he had completed that pass previously and while this highlight appears to show Wilson throwing it toward Harvan, Wilson clearly is expecting the WR to continue to move into the space between the two LB's and Harvan jumped the route.

NCC2010

We'll just have to agree to disagree. It was a curl route not an in pattern. If the receiver kept moving in he would be running right to where Ballard is sitting in the zone. The throw should've gone to the receivers  outside shoulder much like the David Ballard TD against Bethel.

I do agree it was great coverage and play on the ball by Harvan.

It's a bummer these are the only views we get of the game since NCC takes down their streams.

It may be more regular at other D3 institutions, but it isn't very common at IWU.

Edit:  I just looked up quickly, Whitewater full time tuition for the entire year is a little more than $9200 for a Wisconsin resident vs $7600+ for a single class at IWU.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Not sure where you got the $7600 for a single class at UWW.

I think everyone has made their point on this. There is a cost, how much depends on how many credits, what's the housing situation..etc. Alot of students have done it in the past. It's a individual decision.

My understanding is Smyth is expected back this season.

$7600+ is for a single class at IWU which I previously explained.  And again, everyone keeps saying a lot of students do it, but that's just not true at IWU.  The costs with no graduate classes just don't make financial sense for most students.

I'm sure it doesn't happen much at IWU. I'm also pretty sure tuition at Wheaton isn't much different than IWU and this happens A LOT at Wheaton. They do have grad school but there are plenty of players who have extended their undergrad by a class to play in the fall.

I wonder during covid did IWU not have any 5th year seniors? At Carroll in 2023 I know they had at least 7. These guys were all freshmen in 2019, season cancelled 2020 and played 2021, 2022 and 2023.

This is the exact same play as happened when Wheaton safety Eli Reaves was ejected for targeting. Wilson threw it the exact same way to a wide open Rummel who had stopped and clearly Wilson thought he was going to continue. Rummel dove for the ball and Reaves dove to try and deflect it and the collision resulted in the targeting flag (which looked questionable at best). This was also completed 2 other times in the first half with no issues. So either there is a communication issue between QB/WR (man coverage--keep moving vs zone-sit) or the QB who throws 65% completion rate is erratic on his throws 50% of the time. I don't know but I do know that throws that look erratic are quite often because of different expectations/reactions.

They had 1 lone, single 5th year player in 2023 even after Covid.  Kevin Graham, who was also a co-captain.  And they've not listed any since.
