Quote from: Trin9-0 on October 17, 2024, 12:41:37 PMIs there a point to your post, G&P? If you're just going to repost what I wrote then you could have simply used the quote function.

I can only assume you think my opinion could be used as some sort of bulletin board material? I don't think it's off base to agree with the unbiased SP+ (or the biased Nescacman) projection that Trinity should be favored. If anything I was a bit surprised that fellow boardsters Maple and Honcho feel so confident that the Panthers will once again prevail against Trin. It's certainly not out of the question as upsets happen all the time. However I stand by everything I wrote about Clapp, Zebrowski, and the bright future of the Trinity defense.

As I recall you correctly picked the upset last season. Are you willing to predict Midd over Trinity two years in a row? If so, It seems I may actually be in the minority who thinks Trinity leaves Vermont with a win.

Trin 9-0,

Middlebury is a notoriously hostile place to play. I definitely believe the weather could play a role this weekend, not sure if the Trinity team will be acclimated to the harsh conditions. From what I've hearing, A Panthers win is even money this weekend. Again, that unbiased. Thats just what I'm hearing.

Back to one of your previous claims, I would like to point out that #82 for Trinity is coming off 3 catches for 54 yards vs Hamilton. Not exactly "mismatch for any corner in this league and cannot be covered"statlines. Seems like similar production as Ben Skowronk on the 2020 Notre Dame Football team. Per my independent film review and analysis, I believe the key to victory will be each team's preparation. I believe the team who prioritized hydration, sleep, nutrition, etc will ultimately win the game. I like the Panthers.

Obviously, no disrespect towards #82. Definitely a good ball player. #82 had a great year last, no doubt, but was it maybe too good? Since you like to reminisce so much, #82's 2024 statline seems very on par with his 2022 statline. Are you prepared to acknowledge that his 2023 year might've been a fluke? Seems very similar to Patrick Jeffers' 1999 season for the Carolina Panthers. Furthermore, if Clapp truly was an elite receiver, I would hope his statline vs Hamilton would be better that 3catches/54yds/0TDs. Maybe the Hamilton defense is equally elite? Who knows. Excited for Saturday.

Please don't question my knowledge of ball. Outside of my freshman year roommate, I've logged more hours in the film room in my career than just about anyone.

The NESCAC individual stats page gets wonky prior to 2012, but since then there have been just six NESCAC players to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a season (including Midd's Zach Driscoll who did it in 8 games!). You'll note that Sean Clapp is among that group:

You seem overly preoccupied with the Hamilton game. Thankfully, that example once again proves my point about increased attention on Clapp (who is Trinity's X receiver and primary deep threat) allowing for O'Brien (their primary slot receiver) to do damage. The Conts (very smartly in my opinion) played an unusual amount of Cover 4 in an effort to not let the Bantam receivers do damage deep. That game plan worked for most of the first half. When Trin adjusted and started taking more of the underneath routes they scored 31 unanswered points. O'Brien went for 101 yards and 2 TDs.

I won't be surprised at all if it's close; three of their last four meetings have been decided by 6 points or less.

But I agree, even money would be a steal... poor Nescacman got stuck with the Bants -14 and even that's better than the SP+ projected spread of Trin -18.5 which seems like far too many points.

Nescacman,

Not sure if the "hostile" word usage is supposed to be sarcastic or not. But Youngman Field provides for an unmatched and intense home field advantage. I am also confused on why there is an uproar over the Panthers being even money on some books. Per my source, all lines are set by modeling and "ball knowledge." So I believe the Trinity fans get lost on that 2nd part.

I hope Trinity fans pack warm clothes and prepare for the inclement weather on Saturday, as well. I believe that will be a big factor in the outcome, and part of the reason why the Panther's are even money. Will be interesting to see how #15 for Trinity will be able to make throws despite the atmospheric conditions.

We'd hardly call watching a game with Muffy, Buffy and their Irish Setter hostile but if you say so, ok...

As far as "atmospheric conditions", not sure 65 and sunny should be classified as inclement weather...Honcho, clearly you're not a meteorological "legend"....

Nescacman,

I think the matchup in Brunswick seems more pressing for than Wesleyan faithful than the game in Vermont (Panthers + 110). I'm really curious to see how the Wesleyan offensive line and rushing attack adjust from last week. My film study of the Wesleyan v Colby game showed many lapses among the offensive line. From what appeared to be missed assignments, poor schemes, etc, I believe this Bowdoin front 8 will give them fits. I like Bowdoin in this one.

Maybe other board members know this, but why does it say "Junior Varsity" next to my name? I've never played a snap of JV ball in my life. I was a 4 year varsity letterman, so maybe board admin can adjust this error for me.

Dismiss Clapp at your own peril. His 2023 was one of the best in at least the past decade. Clapp's 73 receptions, 1,172 yards and 14 Receiving TDs all rank first in Trinity football history. To call him merely "good" is flippant, at best, and to call him a "fluke" is outright insulting.

You seem overly preoccupied with the Hamilton game. Trin 9-0,

I remember Zach Driscoll. Elite ball player. Maybe one of the best this league has seen.

Just want to clarify and make sure I'm understanding you, the only reason #11 for Trinity has decent stats is because of how good #82 is (despite that not being statistically reflected this season)? Seems unfair to discredit the work of #11. I adamantly refuse to acknowledge that a player who appears to be the reincarnated NESCAC version of 2020 Alabama Slade Bolden to be "one of the best in the past decade." Obviously, no disrespect to #82. It was obvious in my film study that he is indeed a good ball player. I would also like to point out that of #11's 101 yards vs Hamilton, 60 yards came on a singular reception. Outside of that singular big play, the Conts largely held this duo in check.

I will be conducting a further, in-depth film review later tonight. I would assume this analysis will reveal similar conclusions.
