Brewer resigned today from Marietta.  They open tomorrow in NC.

Whoa.  I'm trying to think of a positive reason for him to leave now, but I can't come up with any.  Feel bad for the players.

Certainly wasn't on a positive note for anyone.

To have (presumably) a forced resignation the night before the season starts brings to mind very serious allegations/misconduct. Hard to wrap your head around this. Feel the most for the players.

I guess it depends on your definition of 'serious midconduct'.  Unfortunately, I'm told, it was a a recurring personal issue...and yes, they gave him a chance to resign.

Yeah, this does not sound good.  Those players go from the high of opening day eve to jarring news that their HC is done.  Absolutely stinks for the players.

I would assume whenever they start the search for a new HC the AD's first calls will be to former Pioneers.  I'm certain at least a call will be made to Deegan, but at this point he has Denison at such a high level would he leave for another D3 job even his alma mater?

Yeah, had that discussion with some folks yesterday.  Common sense says give Coach Deegan a call and I'm sure they will.  My point was the same, he's finally figured out how to recruit at Denison and has enough momentum to keep it going.  Not easy to recruit there.

AD said they would begin their search immediately but can't imagine anything would be done until the season is over.  I would doubt current staff would be considered yet.

Marietta has the advantage of name brand, tradition, facilities.  But in 2026 Denison is a better job.  They're on a run of being really good for several years in a row including going to the CWS last year.  In an era of financial uncertainty for some D3 schools Denison is the opposite.  They're sitting on a $1.1B endowment.  For reference, Ott is $135M, Mount is $187M.  And, let's face it, the vast majority their overall student body is from outside OH and pulls a lot of students from affluent areas who can afford $80k/yr.  So Denison can recruit nationally.  You look at their roster and they have kids from 14 states (technically 13 states and DC).  And they have multiple kids from 10 of them.  I doubt any other school in the NCAC or OAC has that type of make up.  So while the rest of us are fighting over the same kids in Ohio, Deegan is recruiting kids from suburban Chicago and the DMV.

Yes, that's why is more difficult there.  Kenyon is similar.  East Coast kids think $80k is a steal.

Denison is certainly in the discussion now as an elite national program.

Cap is 5-0 and averaging over 15 runs/gm.  Team BA of .388 so far.  Definitely something to keep an eye on, especially with the good arms everyone lost from last year due to graduation, transfer or injury.  Cap's pitching was awful last year and they still won 6 OAC games.

Looking at schedules it doesn't appear that Wilm even takes a trip down south.  Looks they have a 3 game series this weekend and again the following weekend.

BW got a 3 run bomb in the 8th to cut the lead to 5-4, but JHU held on for the win.  Good road test for BW early on.

I'm assuming weather was the culprit, but Etta's games yesterday and today were cancelled.  They were supposed to play Salisbury today (who just beat Denison).

Mount swept Brockport between Fri (26-17) and Sat (11-4) then dropped their game against Adrian also on Sat (10-2).  They hit the ball really well every game so far, but Adrian's SP just shut them down.  Not surprising that Adrian would have good arms.  Definitely want to see as many as you can before OAC play.

Ott dropped a pair at MSJ 6-2 and 10-9.  I have no idea what to expect from the Cards.

Muskie dropped a couple.  Bats were shut down by H-S 8-0.  F&M was down 4-0 late, but the pen couldn't make it stand up.

Muskingum left 15 on base in that F&M game.  Had 2/3 with no outs on several occassions and didn't score.

Adrian is going to be good as usual so dropping that game isn't a surprise.

Marietta/Muskingum games were cancelled Sun due to weather.

Adrian is good and Brockport was just outside the top 25 so I like the idea of playing a little tougher competition.  I was happy to see a freshman come in and throw 4 solid innings against Adrian in relief.  Mount plays at JCU this week which I'd like to see remain an annual thing OOC if only for tradition.

I was checking on some Ashland stuff and noticed that's where Powers landed when he left Berg.  Can't say I blame him.  Ashland is a strong D2 with nice facilities.

Dr. Acula

Good win for Etta today 13-1 over Berry.  Ziance was dominant (8 IP, 4 H, 8 K, 1 BB).

Bad loss for Ott 18-6 to Hope.  The Dutch had 6 doubles and 2 homers.

Mount survived a 10-9 shootout with RIT at JCU.  Dennison didn't have great command today and RIT can swing it (they also lost 10-9 to JCU earlier today).
