Any Mount fans with insight as to if Elijah Farrington and Kevin Hamilton plan to stay or test the portal? Not sure either one would go to UC, unless the NIL $$ is too much to pass up (even for a walk-on). Vaden was a bit of a surprise as the first to follow Fuline.

Congrats to Vaden...but cmon Fuline!

Et tu, Mike?

Congrats to Vaden.  Happy for him.  He deserves this after how hard he's worked to get better each year.  Not as happy for the 26-27 Raiders though.

Saw a few pics on social from Mount's photo day.  Returning guys who played a lot that I noticed in them were Farrington, Hamilton, Taylor, Weekley and Dunbar (I'm pretty sure it was him).  Also saw Knight, Romigh, Rodriguez, Braylon Johnson and Zach Davis.  Curious to see about incoming transfers and freshmen, but considering that we knew Casenhiser and Vaden transferred this is best case scenario for retention from last year.

Mount was picked as the favorite in the preseason coaches poll.  Not sure what's going on with Etta and Berg.  That surprised me, but the coaches know far more than I do obviously.  Taking a quick look at the All-OAC teams from last year it's safe to say that we're going to see some new names filling up the box scores.  Farrington is the lone returning 1st teamer in the conference.

1. Mount (6)
2. Ott (2)
3. ONU (1)
4. Cap, Muskie
6. Wilm
7. Berg
8. Etta
9. BW

Roster is finally up.  Looks like Mount picked up a transfer from Mary Baldwin.  6'6" Rony Hogarth avg 14 ppg and 4.6 reb/gm as a soph there. Shot 49% from the field.  Solid pick up.

gonna need him.  not a whole lot of size on the Raiders roster.  My favorite new player is Max Hrabovsky.  No height, no weight, no high school, no hometown, just a man with a basketball

My assumption is they're gonna play small this year.  Pretty much have to.  But with Taylor at 6'5" and Dunbar at 6'4" I'm guessing they're counting on defensive length from non bigs.  That's fine until you play a team w a legit big who can get Farrington in foul trouble.  Not sure they see that in OAC play to be honest.

I am very rarely right on anything so I was glad to see I correctly predicted Laurich to CWRU as a grad transfer.  It makes sense and it's great for him.  Getting his masters in finance and playing ball another year.  Good for him.

Good opening night for the Raiders and the OAC.

Congrats to Coach Twiddy on win #1 of many!  Mount beat Franklin & Marshall 89-78 and it wasn't nearly that close.  F&M went 22-6/10-3 and made the NCAA tourney last year.  Mount started Hamilton, Weekley, Dunbar, Taylor and Farrington.  They looked a little disjointed at the start as expected game 1.  But they settled in and went up 17 at half.  F&M never challenged them in the 2nd half.  Raiders pushed the lead out to 34 by midway through the 2nd half.  They were still up 26 with around 4 minutes to go when they emptied the bench.

Mount absolutely shot the lights out at 62.5% from the floor.  They scored 89 points with Farrington attempting 4 shots.  Dunbar led with 19 pts on 7-8 FG, 5-6 3pt FG.  Farrington and Lear (5-5 FG) had 14 each, Weekley had 13 including 3-4 from 3.  They are not big and it showed at certain points.  When F&M got in the paint it was a problem defensively without Vaden back there to protect the rim.  Last night it was even noticeable when Taylor wasn't on the floor defensively.  The Swiss Army knife had a typical game: 6 pts (3-3 FG), team high 7 boards, team high 4 assists, 1 block, 1 steal.  Freshman Carmelo Williams got 11 minutes and added 4 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast.  He's 6'3" but he seemed physical and was defending taller opponents when he was on the floor.

Muskie bounced back to hold off PSU Brandywine in OT 82-77 in Alliance.  PSB rallied late to tie it.  Potential bad news for the Fish was that Emig went down at the 2nd half buzzer with an injury.  They were looking at his knee.  He didn't play in OT.  PSB was 17-10/11-2 last year.

Ott beat Misericordia 73-71 at Waynesburg.  Misercordia had the ball with 16 seconds left down 2 and missed a shot in the paint to tie it.  They were 17-10/8-6 last year.

The OAC went 7-0 last night.

Mount beat PSU Brandywine 80-55 holding PSB to 27% shooting.  Weekley and Taylor were the story on each end of the floor.  Weekley scored 31 including 9-13 from 3.  He was unconscious at one point being 8-9 from deep.  Taylor scored only 2 pts (did have 3 assists), but on the other end of the floor he dominated with 12 rebounds, 7 blocks and 2 steals.  Dunbar had 16 and Hamilton 14 in the scoring column.  Farrington only attempted 3 FG and ended with 4 pts, 6 reb.

Overall thoughts from the first weekend...they did not do a great job of getting Farrington touches.  There were long stretches in both games where he barely touched the ball.  With F&M it seemed intentional strategy by the Diplomats to double him (and they had some size) and try to deny him.  PSB did not have size.  They were smaller than Mount.

Long-term it may be positive that it allowed other guys to step into more central scoring roles.  Dunbar and Weekley specifically, but someone like Lear also showed some scoring flashes.  Knight, who I expect to be a more involved scorer, looked a little hesitant to me.  Hopefully he settles in because he can score and they're going to need him to.

Minutes wise Twiddy seems to have 9 guys in his rotation to start.  The starters (Hamilton, Weekley, Dunbar, Taylor, Farrington) plus Knight, Lear, Banks and Williams off the bench.  Banks being the backup PG and the other 3 being 6'3"-6'4" guys.  Williams is the one that is guarding bigger opponents.  They lack size and as a result Taylor is the only rim protector because it seemed clear to me that Farrington was intentionally not going for blocks I'm sure to not risk getting in foul trouble.
