Rowan defeats Salisbury 26-20... what a game. Great defenses on both sides. Opportunistic offenses. Salisbury was inside the 20 at the end and Rowan sacked the QB on 4th down to end the game. It's up there with the best DIII games I've seen... and my old ass turns 60 in June 2027. My heart was racing... just  a great game.

I like that wildcat with the backup QB... eventually he'll drop a dime on a receiver for a TD.

Sherman Wood is one hell of a HC. I just thought I'd throw it in there.

Salisbury played a strong first half but struggled to execute in the second, particularly at the quarterback position (throwing). The offensive line also committed two costly false starts that put Salisbury behind the chains and disrupted offensive momentum.

Defensively, I thought Salisbury played well overall, with a few notable exceptions. Gap integrity on the quarterback run(s) early and late in the game allowed Rowan to convert  an early 1st half td on 4th down and third-and-long late in the fourth quarter, which led to the game winning td.

Credit to Rowan, though. They made some effective halftime adjustments to counter what Salisbury had success with in the first half and ultimately executed when it mattered most down the stretch, WRs started catching the ball, which they didn't 1st half.

I actually thought Salisbury's offensive coordinator called a pretty good game, and the defense did enough to put the team in a position to win. Unfortunately, execution didn't always match the play-calling. I also don't believe #1 was anywhere near 100%. Although he played and made some contributions, it was evident that he was physically limited and snaps limited.

One area that continues to concern me is the punting game. The inconsistency has been an ongoing issue, and field position becomes increasingly important in closely contested games. I thought Rowan did a great job with their punts.

Overall, I'm disappointed with the loss, not upset, but I won't question the effort of the players. They competed hard and put themselves in a position to win. However, effort and execution are two different things. Rowan made the critical plays down the stretch, while Salisbury missed several opportunities due to self-inflicted pre-snap penalties, inconsistent quarterback execution, and poor 3rd and long defensive back execution late (again Starting CB was out during this time due to targeting).

The frustrating part is that Salisbury didn't necessarily get outplayed; they simply failed to execute consistently enough to finish the job. Against a quality opponent like Rowan, those mistakes can be the difference between winning and losing. Hat's off to Rowan, they played well and have been trending these last 3 years.

Two potential trap games for the Profs, Kean is up on Saturday then TCNJ for homecoming the following week.

I've seen it before. Hopefully, the team is dialed in.

I remember covering Rowan at William Paterson in 2005. This was the year when Mount Union would have come to Glassboro for the semi finals had Rowan beat WP... but the Profs lost and had to travel to a frigid Alliance, OH.... Glassboro had decent weather that day.

Mike Miello was the WP HC. Very successful NJ high school head coach before taking the gig at WP.

I just remember during the game... before every snap, WP players were shouting out 4 seconds.

I interviewed Miello at the end, the whole strategy was... you just need to be better than Rowan 4 seconds at a time, forget 60 minutes, just give me 4 seconds every play.

Great to see goroprofs and JT2, fellow Prof fans, active on these boards.

Kudos to MrMikeSmith for a great recap (from the Salisbury perspective), he's a legend on these boards

From a Rowan perspective, what a game! I've been following Rowan closely for about 10 years now, so to see Rowan finally ranked in the top 25 has been a ride.

First of all, Rowan beat a very tough Salisbury team. Solid QB, Solid Defense, and Rowan beat them away on Homecoming. No discounting this win at all.

The Profs overcame first half butter fingers. Now we have a dangerous 1-2 punch at QB. I was not a fan of the late hits from the Gulls, I believe only 2 drew flags on late hits on the QB. The Gulls also knocked-out our WR2 on a very late side line hit (I'm not sure if that drew a flag or not). It seems like the Salisbury coaches weren't too happy at the end of the game, but if you look at the last play in victory formation, the Gulls DL got heated for no season.

I'll be rooting for Salisbury against CNU.

Onto Kean

It's just nice to see Rowan in the conversation. I remember when a trip to the Stagg Bowl was expected. I have never been to another venue for the title game other than Salem, VA. The hospitality was off the charts, every single time. Host families... wearing team gear, free booze flowing, BBQ. I brought my seafood gumbo a few times. I brought Sabrett hotdogs, these dogs had a casing with snap. Sabrett was just an NYC metro hotdog. It apparently didn't supply past Rutgers at the time. People requested I bring them. Get those dogs with the snap, is what many people said. I bought them in bulk along with Sabrett's onion sauce.

I know I'm getting old, but nothing beats the 1998, 1999 Rowan football parents. They made Rowan a big time tailgate event. Everyone cooked or brought a spread. I came with my gumbo and hotdogs. Italian food, Polish food, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Jamaican... etc. If at the end of the game you left hungry, then you didn't make an effort to fill up. We would refuel at halftime, and light the fires again after the game to eat before we went home. It felt so big time. Just lifelong stuck in memory bank.

I don't know if the place still exists, but there was a joint that has THE best biscuits and gravy. Ate breakfast there everytime I was in Salem.
