The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Greek Tragedy

I imagine their rankings are both so low, they wouldn't get matched up as a 2 and 3 seed in a pod. They are both easily 4 seeds.

Lots of System talk over in the CCIW room.... good reading.... and a unanimous conclusion that a system team cannot beat an elite level team.. But it will be fun to watch

In the meantime, is GU 1999 really down here watching Baseball?????    BLASPHEMY!!!!!!

Big shout out to my Panthers on back to back SLIAC All-Sports trophies.

GU, over its 13 SLIAC sports, averaged 9.15 points, with 11 first place finishes.  That does not include the two tennis teams who were 1st and 2nd in the UMAC, the men winning the opening round of the NCAA d3 Tennis tournament. Additionally there were very strong showings for the mens and womens gymnastics teams, the latter having national collegiate gym champion and 3rd place individual winner.

Next year GU adds golf.  So, here comes a few last place finishes.  :)

The below quote is from the discussion "Transfers/Seniors with Remaining Eligibility". Nelson played over 35mpg and averaged 23.6 points last season as a sophomore.

Quote from: WUPHF on July 15, 2025, 10:24:07 AMI did see that Charles Nelson is transferring from Fontbonne to Webster, filling one of two big holes that Coach Bunch needed to fill.

Webster schedule has been posted.

https://websterathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule

Typical 16 game conference schedule, plus:

Two exhibitions -- at Middle Tennesse and at SEMO

Six games vs non-conference D3 schools -- University of the Ozarks (twice), Concordia (WI), Millikin, Wash U, Illinois College.

Three non-D3 opponents -- Welch College (Gallatin, TN), Wright State University-Lake Canmpus, and Harris-Stowe.

Regarding the three non-D3 opponents, I have to wonder if the NCAA's NPI rating system has had an effect on Webster's ability to schedule some games vs D3 schools. Schools are now looking to play opponents that are likely to strengthen their NPI and playing Webster, along with other SLIAC schools, might be viewed as hurting rather than helping their NPI. I have no idea if this is a factor, but I've wondered if NPI might affect scheduling in this way. Principia also has three non-D3 oponents. Blackburn appears to also have two or three regular (not exhibition) games vs non-D3 schools. Greenville and Lyon each appear to have one such game.

I am grateful that the coaches think that GU will be mid-table.  Since the 2015/6 season, when GU went to the System, they have been ranked 5, 5, 4, 8, 4, in the 5 years they have tied for or outright won the league.  So, a preseason coachs poll #4 seed sounds great to this panther fan.

What about the other years when they didn't tie for or win the league outright? Where were they ranked and where did they finish. I'm curious to know if they were ever ranked #1 and, if so, where they finished in any of those seasons.

These polls are a crap shoot and don't mean anything anyway. But they're fun to get the juices flowing as the season approaches.
