Back and forth game between La Crosse and Saint John's. Eagles just executed down the stretch in the money possessions. Eagles have no super star, but they have a team of stars that work together. Not too flashy, but they are effective and efficient.

Never exactly sure what going to get with transfers, but K. Thomas has been great find and fits well.

Yeah, I have to say, pretty impressed with La Crosse. Saw them at the Great Lakes Invite in Grand Rapids. Scorching hot offense one day, stifling defense the next. I guess there is a reason why they are picked 2nd in the WIAC this season.

Players from the FVA are always a good get....Platteville, Oshkosh, Point and LaCrosse have FVA alums. Probably best league in WI the past 10 years.

Coach Gritzmacher has added some good players to supplement the nucleus that he inherited from Kent Dernbach. My Eagles are looking good.

Whitewater drops a close one at home to Carthage 69-63. It would have been a nice win for the Warhawks, as Carthage is picked second in the CCIW. Whitewater, picked fifth in the WIAC, dropped to 3-3. The Firebirds improved to 4-2.

To round out the weekend, Platteville hosts Gustavus Adolphus (3-1), who lost to La Crosse, but beat Eau Claire.

Stevens Point hosts St. Olaf (1-6), who has lost to River Falls and Whitewater, but topped winless Stout for their only win.  Point has lost to the Oles the last 3 years.

With no Green Bay Packers game today, I expect a capacity crowd at Quandt. I've wondered why these non matriculating young ladies attend and my only guess is that they like Seth Miron's porn mustache. I'll report more if I can do any investigative reporting today.

Point finally putting in a solid 1st half against a (in theory) lesser opponent. Point up 41-21. They are actually hitting 6 of 12 from distance and Abdul-Wahid doing anything he wants, with 17 at the break.

Point finally put together a solid game today against St. Olaf. Sure, they came in 1-6, but, as previously mentioned, they've had Point's number the last 3 years. So, no apologies there, just like finally beating MSOE after two consecutive years of defeats.

https://athletics.uwsp.edu/news/2024/12/1/mens-basketball-pointers-build-big-first-half-lead-roll-past-oles-to-6-0-start.aspx

Point had a great 1st half, so I don't mind that they didn't extend their lead too much after the break. After going 6-12 from 3 in the 1st half, they expectedly cooled down in the 2nd half, shooting 4-13.

They played really good defense, forcing 21 TOs and coming up with 14 steals. It was nice to see, outside of Krohn, that no one played more than 30 minutes. They still need some depth and with Keith Hoffman no longer on the team, the front court is even thinner.

Point is now 6-0. Here are the current records of those teams we've beaten.

Lakeland (0-6)
MSOE (4-2)
Edgewood (1-4)
North Central (MN) (5-1)
Northland (0-6)
St. Olaf (1-7)

Remaining nonconference schedule

#1 Trine (7-0)
Olivet (1-4)
#10 Christopher Newport (7-2)
Randolph-Macon (ORV) (2-2)
North Park (3-3)

Stevens Point second team out of top 25 at 40 points. Oshkosh adds a few at 10 points.

Platteville still ranked 6th and Ka Crosse up to 14th.
