Take Lance Randall's name off the list at Eau Claire. Randall is leaving UWSP to be the new head coach at St. Leo (D2) in Tampa,FL.

Everyone is entitled to do what they feel is "right" or "necessary" but I can't help but feel bad for Mr. Randall's children.  It seems as soon as they get settled in one place for more than a year, they are on the move again...  Best of Luck in Florida!!!!

That is a good move for him.  I suspect he'll be there for a couple of years at least as the program will need some turning around.

St. Leo was 2-14 in conference (Sunshine State) and 12-16 overall.  Rion Rayfield of Burlington Catholic Central played at Florida Southern in that conference, was first team all-conference two years in a row.

I agree with you on the fact that Wisconsin may not be a destination school and may find it hard to win a national title based on the system and the type of athletes that Coach Ryan recruits, but I would think the masses are extremely satidfied to put a winning product on the floor, that gets to the NCAA sweet sixteen or better every year.

Most programs and AD's would kill for that level of sucess.  Also the program is not being disgraced by troubled kids or NCAA violations.  Kentucky et all can have their cheater coaches who have sold their soul.  Ill take the winning and toughness of Wisconsin.

With recruits history is very fleeting.  They could care less what you used to do they want to know what your gonna do.  Indiana used to be a major player in college basketball and yet I think Mr Crean is finding that the rich tradition and storied past can only get him so far.

I agree 100% with what you said.  UW has a lot going for it but it is not a destination school.  They've benefited recently with Minnesota and Iowa being down as they've garnered recrutis from areas that in the past belonged to those schools.

With Bo Ryan as a head coach you almost have to pencil them in for 20 wins and a top 4 finish in the conference.  But with guys like Tucker, Devin Harris and trevon Hughes one has to wonder why they don't go deeper in tournaments?

Here is a list of candidates per HoopDirt.

http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/95d3153f/small-college-update/

UW-Eau Claire opened up the other day when Terry Gibbons resigned as the head coach. This is a big time job in the state of Wisconsin. At one time it was one of the premiere small college programs in America. Ken Anderson turned down UW to stay here back in the day because the camp money was too good.

Some candidates here will be

Greg Gard- associate head coach at Wisconsin, would he go the route of his mentor Bo Ryan?
Lance Randall - associate head coach UW-Stevens Point, former head coach at Webster University
Gary Grzesk - head coach at St. Norbert College (former UW-Green Bay defensive star who was in the running at his alma mater last year)
Jeff Rutter - Iowa State dobo who is from WI originally and coached at Cameron H.S., which is in northwest WI.
Todd Adrian - head coach at Edgewood College
Todd Skyrvseth - assistant coach at UW-Whitewater
Aaron Aanonsen - head coach Lakeland College
Joel DePagter - head coach Lawrence University

----------
Other names that are not listed that come to mind that were not listed in article:
Oliver Drake - head coach Ashford University, former assistant at Wartburg College and UWEC
Dave Buchanan - head coach Carroll University, former UW-Superior head coach
Eric Gardow - head coach at Qatar Sports Club, former assistant at UW-Stout, former Blugold
Eric Konkol - assistant at George Mason University, former Blugold
Jason Rabedeaux - former assistant coach at Marquette University
Cam Schuknecht - head coach of Nebraska Wesleyan, former assistant at Wartburg College and UWEC
Nick Bennett - assistant coach at UTPA, former Pointer

Dave Buchanan has only been at Carroll for two years. It's very rare to see a head coach voluntarily leave one school for another on the same level after only two years. I'd be very surprised if he put in his name for the UWEC job.

Todd Skyrvseth - assistant coach at UW-Whitewater

It's Skrivseth

Not sure if he's interested in the job or not.  Hopefully he'll stay on our staff.   However if he is I wish him the best of luck.

Want to take a guess at how long he was at Superior before he voluntarily left for Carroll?  That's right, two years....   ;D

All the more reason for him to stay put in Waukesha. One two-year stint is an explainable aberration from the norm. Two two-year stints, and he might as well hang a sign around his neck that says, "I'm a bad risk. Don't hire me."

Randall was an assistant coach in the job he's now leaving, which makes things a bit different. The basic assumption is that assistant coaches are usually looking to become head coaches, particularly if they've been head coaches before.

Still, Randall's an unusually peripatetic individual. He doesn't seem to be able to stay put in one place for more than three years at a time, regardless of whether he's a head coach or an assistant coach and regardless of whether he's at the pro, college, or high school level. I would've been a little wary of him if I was doing the hiring at St. Leo.

Then again, perhaps St. Leo simply assumes he's going to move on after a quick fix, and the school is only looking for the short-term benefit of having a proven program-fixer do his thing for them.

QuoteOne of the nation's elite NCAA Division III basketball programs added a pair of talented high school players from Wisconsin to its program recently.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, which won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship with a 14-2 record and advanced to the Division III Tournament last season, received commitments from River Valley senior Alex Richard and Appleton North senior Nate Van Handel.

Richard and Van Handel join Jordan Lutz of Amherst and Joe Ritchay of Wisconsin Rapids as incoming recruits to a Pointers program that won Division III national championships in 2004, 2005 and 2010....

I hope they are still waiting on a couple transfer bigs to help out next year but looks like a solid start.  Anybody know anything on these players?  I've heard quite a few good things on Ritchay already.

QuoteThe University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball program loses one of its all-time great scorers this spring when former Milwaukee St. Thomas More athlete Tony Mane graduates from the school.

La Crosse coach Ken Koelbl went a long way in replacing Mane's prolific scoring this week when he received a verbal commitment from Lake Country Lutheran senior Matthew Babel (pictured at left).

Like Mane, Babel can fill it up in a hurry....

Babel is a nice player but he is a different player than Mane.  Mane could shoot from anywhere while Babel is more of a slasher/athlete.

QuotePat Miller, who recently completed his 10th year as the head coach of the men's basketball program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is excited about the possibility of putting two of his prized incoming recruits on the floor at the same time next season.

That's because in 6-foot-6 wing Travis Crayton of Burlington and 6-3 Charlie Fischer of Arrowhead, Miller has two tremendous shooters who figure to challenge for immediate playing time for a perennially strong Whitewater program that finished 10-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 17-9 in all games last season...
