Another NIL play?

UW-Stout released their MBB and WBB conference schedules. So, you can start planning your January and February Wednesday's and Saturday's.

Same format again with all WIAC bye Saturday January 31.

Greek Tragedy

Two observations.

I don't understand why, again, they have the bye on a Saturday. Thought you'd want to get some butts in the seats. Have the bye on the previous Wednesday and then the bye falls exactly halfway through the conference season. I guess they have their reasons.

Also, Stout's 2025-2026 roster is up and it includes Aiden Shore, who was out for all but 2 games last season. He had some good numbers in 2023-2024.

The only thing I can reason is so there are an even 7 Saturday and 7 Wednesday game dates.

But, I don't like reason anyway. Because the option could be 8 Saturday's and 6 Wednesday's.

Either way it's uneven. 7 home games and 7 home games no matter how you slice it.

You'd think that an academic institution league like the WIAC would try to keep the athletes home on a school day and move the bye to a Wednesday. Maybe they use AI to update their schedules.

Do teams use that bye for non-conference games?  That could be why they keep it on a Saturday - much easier to schedule something.

For the most part, I imagine without actually looking up past schedules, they have all their non-conference games before the new year and when the calendar flips, it's just conference games. I could be wrong.

Riley Zayas has informed me that Stevens Point will be playing Hardin-Simmons, a Sweet 16 team last year, on Friday, December 20, at the Leslie Robinson Classic in San Antonio. On Saturday, they will play host Trinity TX.

That might be a nice pre-Christmas trip if I can get some help with the chickens. The level of disease risk has dropped precipitously so this ought to work out. The Riverwalk is cool; will Trinity be the Pointers Alamo?

Stout's full men's schedule is here.  Non cons vs Oak Hills, at Macalester, vs Maranatha, at Calvin, at Hamline, at IWU, vs UW-Superior, vs North Central, at Saint Mary's, at UW-Oshkosh Arena Tournament x2.

Also an exhibition at Michigan Tech in there.

Sad Stout has to take non Division III NCCAA Oak Hills as the 11th game to open the season. Now they already have two, but surely one of the other five UMAC's must need a game with Northland closing.

https://stoutbluedevils.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule/2025-26

Also looks like the Oshkosh Arena tournament will move up the 28th and 29th of December this year after being on the 29th and 30th from the beginning.

Greek Tragedy

And scheduling Maranatha probably isn't much better. Too bad they couldn't schedule Hope or Trine or another MIAA school to play along with Calvin. Long trip for one game.
