This Point team has mostly been solid on the offensive end but can't guard anybody to save their lives.  North Park was able to get to the rim whenever they wanted to.  The first half lead vanished because Point struggled to break the press for about an 8 minute stretch.

They will have to outscore teams this year if the first few games are indicative of this team moving forward.  Which is pretty sad knowing where Point's tradition came from on the defensive end.

Do you see this as a personnel issue?  Good guys but not defensive oriented and can't be coached up?  Somewhat hard to believe.

It's a personnel issue and a bad matchup issue.  There isn't one kid on Point's roster that I would consider "quick" for their position.  Combs is quick but I wouldn't say he is overly quick for a point guard.  Because of this, any team with quick, athletic guards will give them fits from keeping them out of the lane.  You also don't have a big athlete waiting in the lane to alter shots either.  Outside of Krohn, nobody on the roster has the size for athletic guards to worry about at the rim.  Losing Moore to injury and Tyshawn-Teague Johnson to transfer really puts this issue to light.

Whitewater with a nice win over previously unbeaten Elmhurst.

The WARHAWKS and Elmhurst exchanged the lead 5 times and were tied 5 times in first half before a 12-6 run by the WARHAWKS over the last couple of minutes led to a 46-40 halftime lead.  A 23-6 advantage in points off of turnovers and a 52-32 advantage in the paint propelled the WARHAWKS to a game high lead of 22 points with 3 minutes remaining before the game ended 88-72. Luke Bara hit 6 of 8 three pointers leading four WARHAWKS (Madson 16, Verges 13 and Warren 10) in double figures. Warren added 9 rebounds and a pair of steals. As a team the WARHAWKS shot 59% from the field.

Stout comes back home after beating Illinois Wesleyan only to lose to Superior. Yikes.

River Falls and Oshkosh score 87 each in home wins.

Ripon and La Crosse were knotted up at 28 apiece at halftime.

The Eagles win 72 to 62 in a blah effort at Ripon. Kudos to coach Finco and his Red Hawks for putting a scare into the 3rd ranked UWL squad. La Crosse is now 7 and 0 on the season.

Felt like Stout was getting blown out most of the night, but Blue Devils pretty up the margin late 77-81 in a home loss for Augsburg. Credit to the Auggies fir agreeing to and playing this game

Boys from Oshkosh made like 3/50 from 3 points and got killed by Calvin.

Point gets another uninspiring win, this time, over North Central MN 78-65. This is the same team that Eau Claire beat by 43 earlier this season. North Central is just 1-8, but were favored to win the UMAC. Point found themselves down as many as 8 in the first 5 minutes of the game. Outside of a 2-0 lead in the 1st minute of the game, Point didn't get a lead until 6 minutes left. Point got it up to 7, but the visitors hit a jumper at the buzzer to cut the lead to 3 at half-time. The hosts got the lead up to double-digits from most of the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, but the Rams wouldn't go away and got the lead down to just 4 with seven minutes to go. The Pointers were able to weather the storm and get the lead back to a 3 or 4 possession game the rest of the way.

The McNeal brothers were basically unstoppable, combining for 32 points on 13-22 shooting , 10 rebounds, 11 steals and 7 assists. Josiah Butler was again the closer, scoring 24 points Seth Miron had a great all-around game with 14 and 10, 5 assists, zero turnovers and 3 steals. Cal Krohn had 14 and 4 with 6 dimes. It was nice to see Isaiah Moore back in the lineup after missing a few games out with injury. Drew Daust finally scored his first collegiate points, contributing 6 points and 3 rebounds.

Point outrebounded their opponents 43-26, including 16 offensive rebounds. They were just 4-24 from 3 and  only 62.1% from the line. Nearly 900 attended, so the fans are slowly coming back. 6-1 with a trip to Olivet next weekend, then the big weekend in Texas vs Hardin-Simmons and Trinity TX.

Big game tonight as Carthage hosts Platteville. Carthage was picked 1st in the CCIW preseason poll. Platteville was picked 2nd, I believe. Carthage has 3 losses, but all to ranked (at the time, at least) teams...though Carthage was ranked higher than Maryville TN and Mary Washington at the time of the matchup.

Platteville topped Carthage 62-59. The visitors were up 19 with about 10 left in the game.

Amazingly, with the Pioneers' win, the WIAC improved to 11-2 vs the CCIW this season.
