Greek Tragedy

I was looking forward to checking out the battle of Top 10 teams when Calvin plays La Crosse at the Dells today, but Augustana ruined that.

And, apparently, Whitewater's 3-pt win came at the buzzer. Verges stole the inbounds pass around half court and nailed it.

The WARHAWKS Hope game was a classic. A combined 26 ties and lead changes settled by Issac Verges's half court swish at the buzzer. Leading 90-89 Hope sank a pair of free throws to go up by 3.  With 6.3 seconds remaining Collin Madson took the inbounds pass up the left side and drilled the game tying three pointer from around 35 feet.  After a time out with 1.3 seconds remaining Hope attempted to inbound the ball with a pass to mid-court. However it was intercepted by Verges who fired it towards the basket, hitting nothing but net, for the 95-92 game winner. Madson finished with a 20/11 double-double and added 3 assists. Verges was also good for a 19/10 double-double.  Brock Marino added 17 and Luke Bara 12.  Tyshawn Teague-Johnson saw his first action of the season scoring 9 points and pulling down 3 rebounds in 13 minutes.  The officials called 50 fouls resulting in a total of 67 free throws.

It's even better than than... look at the shot they hit to tie it.

Greek Tragedy

Point leads Hardin-Simmons 38-22 at the break. Can't let up on the gas, we know what can happen. Butler with 13 and 7. Crohn with 10. Point is 4-8 from 3, but just 4-10 from the line. HSU has had a lot of good looks, but they just haven't fallen so far. Point is dominating the rebounding again, 27-14. Keep it up.

They let off the gas.

Greek Tragedy

Hey, at least they won! Point didn't look like they wanted to win midway through the 2nd half. They were up 51-38 with 13 minutes to go. Then they managed one 3-pt basket and three FTs in over 9 minutes as they saw their 13-point lead turn into a 4-pt deficit with 3:33 to go, 61-57. To their credit, they didn't pack it up, completely, they tied it up at 61 apiece with 2:32 left and didn't allow Hardin-Simmons to score again.

I remember when Point was a great FT shooting team. They were just 16-28 for 57%. Butler had 22 and 8, while Krohn had 14 and Miron 13 on just 5-14 shooting. Combs played 37 minutes and had only 1 turnover. He also added 4 points, 5 rebs, 4 steals and 3 assists. If the stats are correct, Point only had 8 rebounds in the 2nd half, after outrebounding the Cowboys 27-14 in the 1st half.

How on earth did the Packers lose? Reminds me of the Pointer loss to NPU. Big lead, throws it away. Chance to ice it (4 times for the Pointers) and can't do that.
