Greek Tragedy

On the positive side, Point beat a team when Baumgartner, Combs and especially Butler were all limited with foul trouble.

Crohn and Miron were big, as usual, with 21 and 15, respectively. Miron also added 4 rebounds and 5 assist. The biggest game came from Bocher, off the bench, with a big  17 and 8. Raimer played significant minutes (18) and Orr even got double digits floor time. Great to get a home win in the conference opener. Not that anyone needs to be told, but it's gonna be a grind.

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on January 03, 2026, 08:07:09 PMIn typical Pointer fashion, they didn't make it easy, but pulled out a 78-75 win. They had a 71-61 lead with 1:25 to go, but Eau Claire had a chance to tie it but missed a 3 at the end. I believe Point went 7-10 from the line in that last 1:25. These wins are hard to celebrate when it takes so much out of you when they have a hard time closing the game out. However, I'll take the win.

Agree, is there any killer instinct in the Pointers?  It's a W. Maybe Eau Claire will now be "receiving votes".

I tried to watch the end from Whitewater on the WIAC Network but the feed was stuck at 46-41.  The Gimmicks won 90-78 and did not trail in the second half as best as I can tell. Limited to live stats.

Going to be a great year in the WIAC.

Watched UWSP vs UWEC online Physical game. Bully ball by point. Refs allowed players to go through o. Happens. I do find it interesting refs miss a flagrant offensive on point but later reviewed but no offensive foul and points. Now, they could have called 4 more in the game. But if not. Then don't punish defender for playing defense. Good game. Conference will be tough.

Eagles beat RF 84 to 72, but  are minus 17 on rebounds. Falcons make only 10 of 21 FTs.

What happened to Oshkosh and Whitewater in the second half? Frustrating for a far away fan. How can I properly evaluate these teams when they don't have any video?

Point almost choked, Platteville fended off Stout who didn't want to go away and La Crosse handled River Falls.

The end of the EC/SP game was mishandled by the officials.

If you watch the video, the play with Bulter happens at 1:41 left in the game.

As they had all game, they "let them play" on Point's offensive end. Butler scored and EC came down and ran offense... and ultimately took a 3, which missed.

Once Point got the rebound (1:21), they went back and looked at the video and determined that there was an offensive foul on Butler in the previous possession. But... the basket stuck.

EC got two FTs (made 1/2)... and then got the ball back again, and hit a 3.

Because EC was granted 2 FTs, I have to believe that they determined the offensive foul to.be a flagrant (the Box Score doesn't say, and the SP radio guys weren't told).

Where I think this was mishandled - the referees STOPPED THE GAME after the EC possession. If anything, they should have waited until the next stoppage of play. That then took an offensive possession away from SP after getting a stop.

And for everyone saying SP.almost choked.... a reminder, Eau Claire hadn't lost a game since Feb 26th of last year. That SP was able to grow an 11 point lead with 2:20 to go was great, and you'd love to see them close games out better, for sure. But Eau Claire was going to fight, and fight they did.

And at the end, SP did enough to seal their 11th victory.

Just checked, the site coverage (recorded) stops early in the second half.

Yes, Point did almost choke, despite what the opponent does. Up 10 with 1;25, you have to close the game out. Get a stop, make your FTs. Point shouldn't have to hold on for dear life and hope EC misses a potential game tying 3 at the end. Similar to the NPU game. It would've been devastating for Point if they would've lost that game at home, conference opener, with a big lead with 90 seconds left.

Glad they won, obviously. Build on this.

Oshkosh started the game sinking 7 consecutive three pointers and 24 of their first 26 points came from beyond the arch.  The WARHAWKS couldn't keep pace with that falling behind by 11 before clawing back to within 2-3 possessions until managing to pull within 3 points 37-34 at the half. In the second half Oshkosh would build a 8-10 point lead only to have the WARHAWKS fight their way back to 2-3 possession deficit. But the Titans continued sinking three pointers (7-9 in the second half) and the WARHAWKS could stay within 5-6 points but could never get over that hump.  Oshkosh made free throws and we missed three pointers down the stretch to create the 90-78 final. Collin Madson and Richie Warren each finish with 17 points.  Warren added 9 rebounds.  Brock Marino was good for 15 points and 9 rebounds. Luke Bara rounded out the double figure WARHAWKS scorers with 14.  The Titans went 15-26 from outside outscoring the WARHAWKS 45-18.  The worst of it was our defense which was slow to respond giving the Titans way too many open looks.  If that doesn't improve it's going to be another disappointing conference season.

Very good description. The flagrant foul was consistent with what they allowed. And for point it was advantageous for the game. Don't really care who win but thought this could be the game of the week. Since Osh/ww went down. I was always in belief that a o player need to make a move around and player. They both have right to their location. When you go through a player no move is made. You have a couple options. Hold your ground or give ground. Giving ground ends in easy shots. Which is what happened to EV. But difficult if def believe they are hand tied by a foul. Ec lost because of ft.s and point in paint. uWSP won because they were better. Pretty simple. Playoff type atmosphere: I learned both teams are solid.

Agreed - EC showed how dangerous they can be, especially from deep, and Point showed how unstoppable they can be inside.

Truth be told, as much as I didn't like EC getting another possession after missing their shot before the stoppage and flagrant call....  EC lost 20 seconds off the clock from that possession, because they missed.

With that additional time, it might have made a difference in the final outcome.

Hope the Pointers can move the game up a little next Saturday so it doesn't conflict with the Packers destruction of the Bears.   ;D

I doubt they'll move it. Pointer game at 5, Packer game at 7.
