Greek Tragedy

Quote from: PauldingLightUP on January 09, 2026, 02:10:15 PMBig game this Saturday as 2-0 Oshkosh travels to 2-0 Stevens Point. Almost seems impossible, but UW-Oshkosh has won seven games in a row at the Quandt Fieldhouse. UW-Stevens Point last won two in 2018 at Qunadt, both the regular season and conference tournament.

It also seems impossible, but true, that La Crosse has beaten Point something like 13 times in a row.

Tried to get a prop bet this morning on my way through Illinois on wins by Badgers, Pointers and Packers.  Vegas wouldn't give me odds. Said the Pointers were off the board. Bad karma I suspect.

We're stopping near Nashville to watch the Point and Packer game. We don't eat chicken....family career as a chicken grower....but we suspect we can get some BBQ there.

Any thoughts on what a $100 bet would pay for those three wins?  I know the Badgers won already so could have went one leg and won some serious coin I suspect.

And don't say replace Pointers with Marquette....never want them to win unless it's again Iowa or Indiana.

The buzzer at Quandt Fieldhouse was donated from a WW II bomb shelter.  Hearing issues for regular Point fans are rampant.

Platteville wins  over LaX. Back and forth game until about 7 minutes left in the 1st half. Platteville goes on run to take a 8 point lead at halftime. Platteville held a 10 point lead in the.  2nd half. The lead grew to 18. LaX came back and got to 9 points. Platteville made free thows to close out for a 89-78 win.

Watching game online. Figured good game. It was. But question. Why in plattevile do the refs call a foul on d when o sweeps the ball. Just seems odd. I watch A lot of games online. See it in the nba but Wiac? Saw it against EC and tonight against LAX? Is it something the league added.

Point with a real good win against Oshkosh at home last night. It broke a 7-game Quandt winning streak for the Titans. That's just crazy.

I'm having a hard time finding something to complain about. Point found themselves down as many as 12, several times, in the 1st 10 minutes of the opening frame. Luckily, it could've been a lot worse with Oshkosh missing a few bunnies. They adjusted accordingly and got the deficit down to a single possession a few times before cutting Oshkosh's lead to just 4 at 44-40 at the break.

The 2nd half was a lot of back and forth with neither team holding a lead larger than 4 in the first 10 minutes after the interval. Point finally took the lead for good at 60-58 after two FTs from Butler at the 10 minute mark. Point held at least a 4 point lead until the lead grew to 10 at 75-65 with 3:47 left. Of course, no lead is safe with Point, especially the way Oshkosh plays, so I wasn't comfortable until the final seconds.

This was truly a team win for the hosts. Obviously Butler was huge down the stretch and finished with a career high 31 while making all 18 of his FTs. Baumgartner chipped in with 15 and Raimer played his most minutes as a Pointer and finished with 10 pts. Carter Combs only had 2 points but had 6 rebounds and a few unbelievable assists, finishing with 8 dimes. Grant Manz played 21 minutes and was huge on the boards with 9 rebounds, 6 of those on the offensive end. Isaiah Moore was a huge spark 9 points and 5 rebounds, include a huge and-1 dunk.

Even without Krohn, Point was dominant on the boards with a 43-31 advantage. Credit to Point's coaching staff for adjusting throughout the game. The players looked a little shell-shocked to start, but settled in and really slowed the game down a few times. There were several instances where Point had odd man breaks but backed the ball out instead of playing to Oshkosh's tempo. Awesome stuff.

Point heads to Stout Wednesday. Although the Blue Devils are 1-2, their two losses are by a combined 11 points. Then they travel to Platteville, who beat Eau Claire by 33 and topped La Crosse yesterday.

What a grind.

RF led by as many as 10 points in the first half before the WARHAWKS finished the final few minutes with a 14-4 run and cut their deficit to a single point, 32-31, at the buzzer. that momentum continued in the second half as the WARHAWKS quickly took the lead eventually building it to a high of 10 points, 55-45, with under seven minutes to play. However RF rallied and over the next four minutes pulled even 55-55. A layup by Issac Verges broke the tie and the WARHAWKS started a 14-4 spurt to close out the final couple of minutes.  Verges finished with a team high 16 points and added 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Collin Madson followed with 14 points and a team high 8 rebounds.

$100 on that parlay would probably go $5k.

It was really a game of two contrasting halves. Half 1 was Oshkosh's style/page, Half 2 was Point's.

SP tried to run with Oshkosh in the first, and found themselves down 24-12. They managed to outscored the Titans 28-20 the rest of the half, but couldn't seem to stop Oshkosh, who were shooting blistering percentages from the field.

Good players will make shots.... but you defend to disrupt their rhythm, focus, and form. Point did a pretty poor job handling ball screens by the Titans, they weren't keeping drivers in front, and their help was late, which allowed the three-point shooters to hit in rhythm on the draw and kick.

The second half was a different story. It was played at Point's pace and this started with the Pointer defense. They did a MUCH better job keeping drivers in front, which led to less help required and allowed the off-ball defenders to disrupt... and Oshkosh hit only 1 three, compared to 7 in the first half.

Point also handled the press better in the second half. It wasn't perfect... but when they did beat it, the Pointers got layups (or dunks, like Isaiah Moore's).

This team seems different. They seems special. I'm not sure their ceiling, because of their struggles shooting from 3... but they have yet to play their best to this point, and if they get hot... Watch out!

I think Oshkosh played like the Packers did in the second half. Point played okay but not great; getting excited about put back dunks is fool's gold. When they start to shoot the ball from anywhere but point plank range, I'll get more excited. I see the WIAC as wide open with Platteville, Point, Oshkosh and LaCrosse all in the mix for the title.

Greek Tragedy

Wow. If you can't get excited about a dunk (not a "put back" btw), why be a fan?

Point up 3 to #11
La Crosse drops from #6 to #18
Platteville enters at #19
Oshkosh jumps one to #20

Eau Claire goes from #17 to the 1st team outside the Top 25, two points short.

I'm not ready to count out Eau Claire yet. Their two losses were on the road. They're still in it. Whitewater lost twice at home, they're probably out of the title race and are going to need some better results to make top four and a home game.

These teams are so even I think. I hope they don't beat each so much that only two teams get in the NCAA Tournament. They're going to take on losses, especially on the road. Like if Oshkosh beats Platteville at home Wednesday, then you 100% home court is massive this season. Hoping at least four can make the Tournament.

I don't think 4 will make the tournament. That would probably mean the top 4 split with each other and then sweep the bottom four. I would be happy with 3 making it. I would be shocked, but overjoyed, if 4 made it, but that's a tall order.
