Greek Tragedy

The ARC got 4 teams in it a couple of years ago. Outside the UAA, who have teams in different regions, and the NESCAC, who only play each other once, getting 4 teams in from a single conference doesn't happen a lot. Obviously I mention those two conferences because there have been arguments that those attribute to unfair advantages, but I won't open up that can of worms again.

Going into the conference tournament (6 teams, I believe)

Neb Wes 22-3 (13-3) won conf semi, lost final
Coe 21-4 (13-3) lost in conf semi
Loras 21-4 (11-5) won conf 1st rd, won conf semi, won final
Dubuque 20-5 (11-5) won conf 1st rd, lost semi

Central did not get in. 17-8 (11-5) lost conf 1st rd

THREE conference games in:

Stevens Point 3-0 (13-1)
Platteville 3-0 (11-3)
Oshkosh 2-1 (11-3)
Eau Claire 1-2 (12-2)
La Crosse 1-2 (11-3)
Whitewater 1-2 (10-4)
Stout 1-2 (4-9)
River Falls 0-3 (5-9)

Two years ago they didn't use NPI, so not sure if that will help this year or not. Three teams already have 3 losses while those ARC teams finished the regular season with just 3, 4, 4 and 5 losses and we still have 11 conference games to go. Obviously, records don't mean everything.

Eagles MUST secure HC win tonight against WW.

In the NCAA model, does the SOS of the league offset the losses if everyone beats each other...say a 3 loss team wins the WIAC?

Is WI weather a factor for team travel today?

Looking forward to watching wiacnetwork.com on my dad's beachside casita TV. Met a new friend last night and she agreed to watch with me.  I am optimistic she will enjoy the visit. Pointers ought to have an easy W tonight so I will have more time to get to know her. News at 11.

Did my own research--see how Platteville and Oshkosh have the highest SOS in the WIAC using the NCAA Criteria on D3 Datacast? Matters.

Stout's two losses are a 9 pt loss to Platteville and a 2 pt loss to Eau Claire. It would be foolish to think going up to Johnson Fieldhouse should be an easy win. Anything but.

WW leads 33 to 20 at the half. Eagles look awful.

I didn't start watching until about the 12 minute mark in the 2nd half, but it's all I needed to see.  Point is obviously a much different team without a natural post like Krohn.  With that said, it was about the most pathetic defensive effort I have seen at the college level.

This Platteville team has had trouble in the last 5-10 mins of games all season.....same thing tonight.  Might be lack of depth and starters get tired.  Got hopes up with good EC and LaX wins (both at home though), thought tonight was a winnable game.  Tonight across the conference shows wins on the road will be hard to come by.  Big game vs SP at home on Sat, need a win if want legit chance to win conference.  WIAC appears WIDE open and should be a crazy, exciting next 6/weeks!

Have to report on my Florida date.  Started out great, we really hit it off and had some apps and a few drinks.  Was watching the Point game and she asked good questions about the game and my interest. First half seemed reasonable for a road game and I was optimistic.

Around 7:30 left, AJ Uttech (used to be a Pointer but wasn't good enough I guess) hit a three pointer and some FT as I recall and I got upset and threw a bowl of Fritos behind the TV. She said she couldn't hang with someone with anger  issues.  I told her it was Dernbach's error and asked her to forgive me.

We are going to go to the beach tomorrow and try and work this out. She asked me to bring the Uttech stats so I could show her how boneheaded it was to push him out. Hope that works, she is hot and intelligent. I want this to work.

So what the hell happened to LaCrosse and Eau Claire--wow, ugly starts for them.  I am not shocked by the Oshkosh result, they stunk it up for about 7 minutes vs. Point or they'd be 4-0 in WIAC.  Not sure Platteville can handle the ball well enough against that mess and unless they make tons of 3P I don't see it. Will watch the stream tomorrow subject to time conflicts with the beach date.

Anyone have any thoughts on this Uttech matter that can embolden my case with her?

WARHAWKS and Eagles shoot a combined 0-18 from beyond the arch in the first half but the WARHAWKS held the Eagles to 28% from the floor overall, made 4 extra two point baskets and 5 more free throws to hold a 13 point lead, 33-20, at the break.  That lead would grow to a high of 19 with just over 13 minutes remaining.  Then the WARHAWKS went cold failing to score from the field for over 9 minutes while Eagles chipped away at the deficit, making a 24-8 run and reduced it to 3 points, 57-54, with 4 minutes to go.  A pair layups and free throws from Luke Barra plus free throws from Collin Madson kept the WARHAWKS lead in the 3-5 point range for the time that remained. Barra finishes with a game high 22 points. Issac Verges added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Richie Warren was good for 12 points, 6 rebounds and a pair of steals and blocks. Jake Quast came of the bench to pull down a team high 9 rebounds and added 6 points and 3 steals.  The Eagles missed their first 20 3-point attempts and finished 1-22.

Not necessarily the way you want to see your guys blow a big lead.  But they held on and won from a spot [free throw line] that's been an issue this year and on the road over a ranked team so all in all a good win.

Greek Tragedy

Stout (2-2) at Whitewater (2-2)
Stout tries to piggyback their impressive win vs Point when they travel to the far corner of the state to take on Whitewater who just upset La Crosse on the road.

La Crosse (1-3) at Eau Claire (1-3)
The two teams that probably had the most successful nonconference schedules battle it out. La Crosse has lost 3 in a row. Eau Claire had a 2-pt win at Stout sandwiched between blowout losses at Platteville and at River Falls.

Stevens Point (3-1) at Platteville (3-1)
Point and Platteville will try to bounce back from their first losses of the conference season, both on the road.

River Falls (1-3) at Oshkosh (3-1)
Oshkosh tries to avoid the upset as they welcome River Falls, fresh off their blowout win over Eau Claire.
