Quote from: Greek Tragedy on February 18, 2026, 09:52:24 PMPoint forgets there's 2 halves in a game and forgets to show up the last 15 minutes of the game. Another egg laid. No conference championship for the Pointers again. Tough finish at Oshkosh this weekend. I wonder what Point team will show up this weekend.

Whitewater won the game, far more than Point losing it.

Whitewater totally outplayed Point in the 2nd half, but there were so many lazy turnovers that were completely unnecessary by Point.

Greek Tragedy

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on February 18, 2026, 10:29:34 PMGoing into tonight's games:

Point #15 AQ (between At-large 4/5)
La Crosse #21 At-large 7
Whitewater #23 At-large 9
Oshkosh #27 At-large 12
Platteville #33 At-large 17

Stout 66 River Falls 52
La Crosse 82 Oshkosh 63
Whitewater 80 Stevens Point 70
Platteville 86 Eau Claire 56

Whitewater jumps La Crosse and Point to 17th and the AQ

Point drops to 18th and is the At-large 6 now.

La Crosse actually drops one At-large spot to 8, but maintains it's #21 ranking.

Platteville basically swaps with Oshkosh, moving to #28 and At-large 12.

Oshkosh drops to #30 and At-large 14.

The big game is Point's visit to Oshkosh

Whitewater hosts River Falls to clinch the outright conference championship.

Eau Claire visits La Crosse.

Platteville welcomes Stout.

There is still not a head to head sweep among the top five in the conference. Two more splits conveyed on Wednesday. One game to go Stevens Point at Oshkosh on Saturday night.

The difference is Whitewater did not suffer any upsets to the bottom three, yet anyways, and that's why they lead the conference.

Greek, I would say Whitewater, La Crosse, and Stevens Point are safe into the NCAA Tournament. They could suffer two losses and still make it.

Platteville and Oshkosh on the bubble.

Whitewater also all of a sudden could be in position to host the first weekend, forcing their women on the road.

Whitewater totally outplayed Point in the 2nd half, but there were so many lazy turnovers that were completely unnecessary by Point.

Whitewater made 7/11 3's in the second half, and they weren't wide open (not by a long shot). Speaking of long shots... several of those were DEEP 3's.

Look, I wanted Point to hoist a banner after this season as much as anybody. Getting conference title #30 matters, especially because it's been more than 10 seasons since we've had one to hang on the wall.

But it matters, too, because of what it means about where the program has gotten to again. The Radio guys mentioned it last night again (and they've talked about it plenty this season) - losing Cal Krohn is a difficult mid-season loss. Perhaps the toughest player loss they could have had, maybe with the exception of Josiah Butler.

Other teams have overcome adversity as well. But I think Whitewater played exceptionally last night, especially in the second half.

If they play like that, they're going to be a tough out in the NCAA tournament.

I think I wrote Whitewater off because of the start of the WIAC season. They started 0-2. But they've gone 9-2 since - the best in any 11-game stretch by anyone in the WIAC, and that's why they're sitting in the #1 spot with 1 game to play.

Point had the lead for most of the first half but the WARHAWKS managed to keep the score close. When the half ended Point led by seven, 35-28. Point continued to hold the lead for the first nine minutes of the second half when a free throw by Kelton McEwen tied the game 44-44 and after a Pointer turnover McEwen sank a three giving the WARHAWKS a lead they would maintain and build upon the rest of the way. Collin Madson led the way with 23 points.  Luke Bara added 14 and Issac Verges had a team high 7 rebounds.

The turnover totals for the two teams weren't really that different (WW:11,SP:14). What was different was scoring off of them especially in the second half (14-0). Point had an 11-2 advantage going into the break. Another factor was bench points. Led by McEwen WW got 28 points from the bench where the Pointers had 12.

The main factor, imo, was shooting. Point went cold and the WARHAWKS got hot.

Cal Loose, from Port Washington, has committed to the Pointers.

Not sure if it was mentioned already. My apologies if it has.
