Quote from: Macon on August 03, 2025, 06:16:44 PMAn updated article on the Guilford situation.  Only 950 students projected for the fall.

https://www.theassemblync.com/education/higher-education/guilford-college-raised-6-million/#:~:text=As%20The%20Assembly%20reported%20in,December%202023%20for%20financial%20reasons.

A bit of good news, but more bad news it seems. This paragraph is quite concerning: "As The Assembly reported in May, Guilford's accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), placed the school on probation in December 2023 for financial reasons. It tasked Guilford with balancing its budget and reiterated the need when it extended Guilford's probation last year. SACSCOC meets again in December, when it will either restore the school to good standing or revoke its accreditation. Guilford would have the right to appeal if it loses accreditation."

Guilford received an extension on their Probation

^^^Right, but if I read the timeline correctly they were put on probation in December 2023 and received the extension in 2024. So their full 24 months of probation ends in 4-5 months. Sure hope their accreditation is restored.

Yikes. Thanks for reminding me that the year is more than half over!  ;D

In my work brain, I'm still in the first half of the year and sometimes I'm still in 2024.

Just saw this reel on Facebook billed as the Top 10 Buzzer Beaters of All Time: https://www.facebook.com/reel/805588488473248

Surprisingly to me, it doesn't include the Jordan Snipes 2005 buzzer beater at RMC: https://youtu.be/y6mRHgUH2H4?si=P7l8cHJGD-B7g2n4

Macon

RMC has six freshmen this season.  You can go to YOUTUBE and search RMC HOOPS to see their HS senior highlights.

RMC schedule is posted: https://rmcathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule

The nine non-conference opponents are: Eastern, Gettysburg or Wilson, CNU, Yeshiva, Centre, Augsburg, Misericordia, Salisbury or Eastern, and Mary Washington (though this game is identified as an ODAC game on the schedule).

The ODAC teams on the schedule twice are: H-SC, Averett, Bridgewater, VWU, and Shenandoah. Single games are vs Roanoke, Lynchburg, Guilford, EMU, W&L, and Randolph.

The Yeshiva game is at 815 pm on Homecoming/HSC game day. We should have a "Tuned Up" Crowd! LOL.....Yeshiva could only play after sundown on Saturday because of Shabbos, The Jewish Sabbath, as they are an Orthodox Jewish University. They had a game with Mary Washington and wanted another one with their trip down south. I havent checked Mary Wash's schedule to see if their game with them is before or after ours. Coach Merkel, as I understand it, agreed. Should be a good one!

^^^ Just checked the UMW schedule. Their game with Yeshiva is at 1 p.m. Sunday, 11/16. That gives Yeshiva perhaps a little over 14 hours after the game in Ashland before they tip off again.

CNU85

Yeshiva has the game at 2pm on their schedule.  oops!  ;D

Quote from: Macon on October 06, 2025, 02:53:28 PMThe D3DataCast brothers' preseason poll with RMC at #2.  Five ODAC teams in top 40.

To be clear, that's how teams stand in their efficiency rankings, wich is a statistical projection of the difference between how many points a team scores per 100 possessions and how many points their opponents score per 100 possessions. It's not the same as saying "this is who I think is the second best team in the country at the start of the season".

H-SC is not slacking up on the non-conference schedule now that the Adam Brazil era is over. I can't say it's the toughest non-conference schedule in the D3 nation, but it must be in the running.  UW-Lacrosse, Redlands, Emory, Keene State or VWU, Pfeiffer and Maryville.  Gotta love it - the Tigers are scheduling as an elite program should.   I haven't looked but I bet Macon's is similar.

The ODAC schedule is going to be nasty. R-MC, Roanoke, Soon to be Batten U a/k/a VW, Lynchburg and H-SC are going to be tough.  W&L is going to be a tough W for anyone.  Judging from X, the Randolph coach has been a very energetic recruiter.  Guilford is a question mark.  They lost a ton of seniors and grad students, and a HOF coach.  The precarious Guilford financial and accreditation outlook has affected their football competitiveness and decreased their student body size, but it looks like they hired a winning coach, maybe basketball will continue its winning ways.

Here's the RMC schedule. Doesn't look quite as strong as H-SC's, but certainly solid. I just noticed that the game vs Mary Washington is no longer identified as an ODAC game.
