Guilford's Gabe Proctor, the ODAC's leading scorer, only played four minutes against RMC. The announcers said he was sick. There were transmission issues from Guilford resulting in much of the first half not being viewable. What I was able to see of that half it looked like RMC was having a lot of trouble adjusting to Guilford's speed, quickness, and trapping defense, while also having problems defending the Quakers. RMC had a six-point lead at halftime. Whatever issues there were with the livestream got fixed for the second half. RMC played its 3-2 zone in the second half and looked much better defensively, getting steals and some fast break buckets. They had a couple of 18-point leads and held on for a 10-point win 83-73. The camera angle, with the camera in the bleachers, doesn't give as good a perspective of the game as the one from higher up, which was only used briefly. Anyway, it was good to get the win.

H-SC, EMU, and Lynchburg all got double digit wins.

W&L got a layup on a nifty pass with about 16 seconds left for only its second lead of the game at 58-57. After calling timeout with 11 seconds left Roanoke as unable to score so the Generals get a precious road win.

The VWU at Averett game was suspended with 9:39 left in the second half, due to wet court conditions per Brian Hamilton above, Averett leading 47-43.

An air of uneasiness hangs over the ODAC.  Anybody feeling real confident about their team right now?  The Tigers have not defeated any particularly good teams; they are 0-4 against ranked teams with 2 close losses and 2 road blowouts.  RMC just lost a head scratcher against Averett.  Roanoke is in the same boat as H-SC without a signature win and took a loss at home to a W&L squad that is fighting injuries.  VWU, same as H-SC and RC, hasn't got a big win, but did smash W&L in Lexington and hasn't dropped an ODAC game yet.  W&L has a glossy record, but a fairly soft schedule so far.  LU had a rocky start, but they appear to be gaining form.  AU and Coach Doino have to be happy with the start of 2026.

RMC is still in the driver's seat.  A little lapse at Averett, where they let the home team hang around and hit a wild game winner, doesn't change that.  Sadly for the Jackets, I've been wrong so many times this season I wouldn't want my seal of approval.

I feel good that W&L has recovered from last year!

You ought to be. The Generals have some young talent (Amorosi, Newkirk, Breeden, Die and Ransom) and should be a top tier ODAC team soon, if not already.

Except for last year they've been knocking on the door for a while. But the ODAC basketball door is a tough one to get through! Until last year (and ignoring COVID), six straight years of double digit conference wins. An ODAC tournament run or two. McHugh has been a difference maker for a program that was middling at best, miserable at worst, since the late 70s. Hutchinson got the ball rolling a bit, but McHugh has been strong.

Still big hurdles to get over though.

Jackets only drop to#5 just ahead of Mary Wash, which is #6, setting up a huge matchup as long as both stay unbeaten in between now and  Feb 7 which is a HUGE "IF", because looking at our schedule we have a number of games we could easily get beaten!  Running the ODAC Gauntlet can be BRUTAL this time of year! We play VWU, HSC, W&L, just to name a few between now and then! But if we both survive it will be a HUGE GAME IN THE COTU ON FEB 7!!One game at a time fellas!!!🐝🐝🐝🐝 GO JACKETS!!🐝🐝🐝

Quote from: Tigerfan on January 10, 2026, 04:49:19 PMWhat a gutsy win by the undermanned Gennies at Roanoke!  W&L was missing two starters: Newkirk and Loughlin.  Averett was giving VWU a very hard time before the unfortunate necessity to stop the game with 9+ minutes to go.  I don't know who the stoppage favors.  Averett got stopped when they were playing well, but VWU will have quite a bus trip for a 9 minute game unless they hang around Danville tonight.  RMC got the 10 point win; I note Gabe Proctor only played 4 minutes.  Injury?

Yeah I didn't see this loss coming for Roanoke.  Seems like the game was close the entire time. This puts Roanoke in a big hole with trying to get a top seed in the ODAC tourney (if we even make it).  It has been a really up and down season for Roanoke so far.  It finally looked like Roanoke was getting the ship right with a big win at Shenandoah and then take a loss to W and L. Tomorrows game against Hampden Sydney will be huge for us in order to try to put ourselves in a good position for the tourney.

Good question. After the loss at Averett and a less than convincing win at Guilford, RMC needs to regroup a bit and use the experiences from those games to make adjustments and get better, which is something they have been able to do in past seasons. We'll see how that plays out this season.

Averett should be flying high after the win vs RMC and leading VWU before the game was suspended. Looks like that game will be completed on February 6th according to Averett's schedule. Tonight vs Randolph is their third straight home game.

I don't want to make the mistake of overlooking any games, like I did last Wednesday, but H-SC at Roanoke and Lynchburg (4-1) at VWU (3-0) appear to be the two key games tonight.

Tigerfan

I can't sugarcoat this: H-SC's previous 2 road games against strong teams do not inspire a lot of confidence for tonight's game in Salem.  Those games against RMC and Emory had the Tigers in big holes in only 10 minutes, and the games were essentially over at the half.  Roanoke has a stout defense.  If the Maroons see a few shots go down early and get confident on the home court, it could be deja vu all over again.  At a minimum, I'd like to see the Tigers not have a slow start and stay in the ball game.

Three of tonight's games were 5 p.m. starts. W&L comes back from a 17-point halftime deficit to win 73-69 at Shenandoah. Guilford handles EMU 89-68. Averett downs Randolph 74-55.

Averett is looking legit. Roanoke wins against HSC 62-47 at home. Much better game for Roanoke especially on the defensive end than their last game against Washington and Lee.

RMC with a comfortable 103-47 win over Bridgewater. The Eagles were missing a couple of their leading scorers due to the flu. As the game wore on it looked like the Eagle players were running out of energy, so you have to wonder if some of them were a bit under the weather as well.

VWU remains undefeated in conference, downing Lynchburg 70-59.

Roanoke takes care of home court over H-SC 62-47.

Roanoke has another huge game Saturday at the undefeated in conference Virginia Wesleyan. Our defense better be ready to play or we could be embarrassed

The Tigers had a 1 point lead at 14:57 in the first half.  At 3:18, they had made only 1 basket since and found themselves down 15.  That atrocious stretch pretty much sealed the game.  The Roanoke defense gave H-SC nothing.  Quite a few possessions ended with a forced shot as the shot clock ran out then a layup on the other end.  The Tigers battled back to within 5 in the second half but lack of 3 point shooting (3-23) doomed them. The Tiger defense and rebounding are solid, but the offense has to get better if they are going to compete with top level ODAC teams.  Errors on the offensive end are creating problems on the defensive side.

^^^ This is definitely today's key game in the ODAC.

But Lynchburg at H-SC could also be tight, as could Guilford at Bridgewater if the Eagles are back to full strength. If some Eagles players are still sick, it might be tough for them to keep up with the Quakers.

Averett should win at EMU and W&L is likely to prevail over Randolph at home.

RMC hosts Shenandoah. This has recently been a tough game for the Jackets when they play at SU (and two seasons ago in the ODAC tournament), but not when they play in Crenshaw. I expect the Hornets will be pumped to change that.
