RMC with a 69-41 win over H-SC in Salem. A really surprising second half. The Tigers led 27-26 at halftime. But after the intermission, on so many possessions the Tigers did everything right except put the ball in the basket. Don't think I've ever seen anything like it. The Jackets had a few possessions like that in the first half, but not nearly as many. At halftime I really thought we were in for a nail-biter. As Tigerfan noted, the Tigers had zero experience in Salem and perhaps that was a factor. Tough way to end the season. Surely would have been a different game with Lynch and Fernald on the floor.

RC won the ODAC against RMC...I think I'm still in shock to be honest.

RMC had a three point lead (58-55) and the ball with about 35 seconds left. After a Roanoke time out the Maroons fouled on the inbound pass. Jabril Robinson missed the front end of a one-and-one, RC got the rebound and scored. They fouled again on the inbound and Liam Joyce missed the front end. RC got the rebound and scored again to lead 59-58 with 8.1 seconds left. RMC's Delani Hammonds drove the length of the floor, was well defended, put up a wild shot from the left side of the basket that wasn't close. Kudos to the Maroons. That is exactly what you hope for in that situation. It doesn't always work out that way, but this time it did. Remember RMC only beat Roanoke by five points in Crenshaw earlier in the season.

Congrats to the Jackets on a great regular season and ODAC tournament. Only three losses by a total of four points is pretty impressive. Best of luck in the NCAA tournament.

Congrats to the Maroons.  To tell you the truth, I'm absolutely shocked to write that.  You see, I came on to congratulate the Jackets.  Having a cold, I turned the game off with less than a minute to go and went to bed, firmly believing that the game was over and RMC had won.  I recently checked D3Hoops to see who got in the tournament and was gobsmacked.  Wow, this weekend had Omari Deveaux, ODAC POY, and Jabril Robinson, 3x 1st Team All-ODAC, at the line to win games but not getting it done to the benefit of Roanoke.  Incredible bullet dodging there.

Anyway, good luck to the ODAC teams next weekend and on.

As you all know, you have to make FTs in clutch situations, especially the front end of a 1 and 1.  Congratulations to the Maroons.  I hope RC and RMC both do well in the NCAA tournament.

Here's to hoping H-SC has placed a premium on shooting in the current high school class because the team loses it's best shooter and there wasn't exactly a whole lot of shooting on this team to begin with.

And here's to hoping Lynchburg is able to upgrade at the guard spots (and shooting) because it's been a weakness for a while now. Imagine what Jamarcus Brown could do if he had a reliable scoring perimeter player and some shooters to go alongside him.

RMC hosts Friday evening and plays NC Wesleyan. John's Hopkins vs TCNJ (who beat Montclair State twice) in the other game.

Roanoke faces Rhodes at Emory on Friday. Emory plays MUW (Mississippi University for Women, winners of the SLIAC tournament).

Roanoke drew a tough bracket with Emory, but that's travel rules for DIII.  Looks like RMC and TCNJ may be headed for a collision.  First round first, though.

A little, yes, but it's also cascading attempts to hold seed.  They could've sent Roanoke to CNU and flown CMS to Emory, which would've been a little closer to correct seeding.  However, the choices they made to try and keep both Redlands and Mount Union (teams ranked ahead of Roanoke) closer to their own seeds forced this geographic decision.

In the end, that's probably the right move - sacrificing lower ranked teams in favor of higher ranked one - but it's still a bit unfortunate.

Both ODAC teams advance. Roanoke eked out a four-point win over Rhodes, 88-84, in Atlanta and face host Emory tomorrow. The Eagles downed Mississippi University for women by 14.

In Ashland, RMC had a strong second half, after leading by eight at halftime, and topped NC Wesleyan 76-52. The Jackets will face TCNJ, whose only lead of the second half was the 74-73 final score on a three-pointer with 1.1 seconds left in the game. RMC was without starting point guard Delani Hammonds, as well as a couple of freshmen.

In his post-game interview Coach Merkle praised the Jackets second half play, noting they have been a second half team all season. But he mused about wanting to play two complete halves of basketball. I don't recall his exact words, but whatever they were he is right. The Jackets are not a team used to trailing by much in games. Sure, they've faced some deficits and played some tight contests. But the competition is going to get stiffer and they can't afford to be playing from far behind against stronger teams.

Found out this am from one of my frat bro basketball alumni buddies that Delani Hammonds has a groin injury and probably won't play tonite either. Will find out if it's season ending tonite. Such a shame too- he's been playing so well all year, but injuries and playing through them are part of the game. I remember well a couple of years ago when Jabril Robinson was out for the playoffs and it hurt us. Hopefully the other guards will pick up the slack to pull us through. At least that's one

What an amazing game it must have been at Emory. I was peeking in on the live stream, mainly to check the score, since the live stats on the D3hoops.com scoreboard weren't updating reliably. Roanoke scored 55 points in the first 20 minutes and led Emory 55-48 at halftime. Then, in the second half, the two teams combine for a total of 47 points. Emory tied it in regulation and got an 83-81 win in OT. Great season for the Maroons.

RMC takes care of business vs TCNJ 68-45. A pretty typical RMC game -- tough defense, balanced and unselfish offense. Jackets will host CNU next weekend. Date and time TBD.

The "live stats" provided by NCAA.com are pretty terrible. Don't know why they are the worst live stats literally every. Even the basic package people started using in like 2002 is better than theirs.

Their live stats are ridiculous! I can't even look at them.
