Old_Hopper....Agreed!....wife has close friends/family in the Newtown school system.
Post season all-star roster assignments is always fun to argue about when they come out at the end of the season.  Not my thing to discuss or lobby for at this time of the season.  The key for Amherst is to keep on improving and win games.  IMHO, the Amherst players' focus..with respect to MBB..is to win games and not be concerned about their stats along the way.  "CAC" title first!  The all-star roster spots are and should be the last things on their minds at this time.....finals, family and health... now in December.

Your correspondent is rightfully unaccustomed to gaining karma from anyone anywhere at any time and consequently is flabbergasted.

I judge post-to-post.  No prior posts were considered (or harmed) in the giving of the +1.

With VA Wesleyan losing last night, the NESCAC will probably have the #1 spot.  That being said, I would rather my team be a climber on the early polls rather than on top.

If I were a coach, I would prefer that my players ignore, early and late, the polls and their byproducts. With that accomplished the fans can do as they please - then what they do in that regard will have no substantial adverse effect on the players' game.

This will be the second year in row with Middlebury at the top spot in the next poll with VA loss - seems like it is easier to get there than stay there though.  A lot of good teams out there still undefeated like St Thomas, Stevens, Franklin Marshall, Ramapo not to mention WPI.

A little better Racy update for the Amherst boys.  I was at the girls game last night, so didn't see it but Racy led all scorers with 26 (6 3's) in their first game back after games were canceled late last week because of the Newtown tragedy.

WPI89.....Thanks for the info...as expected the cream will rise to the top.
Old Guy..... since you are a baseball player/fan of the "CAC"....Brian Hamm, Midd.'02...head BB coach at Amherst has been named Deputy Commissioner of the NECBL.  Coach Hamm also won the conference coach of the year in 2011.  Did you teach him at Midd.?
Background story on the Amherst website today.

Official info on all the NESCAC ED New England recruits (at least those that have been announced):

http://www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com/news/article/2900/Early-Decision-Commitments.php

Surprisingly few, actually, although this would not account for out-of-region recruits, or those that just haven't been publicized (for example previously reported here was a Williams recruit from Ohio, and can't recall if discussed, but Amherst I believe has a point guard recruit from Illinois).

Speaking of notable NESCAC alums, former Eph / Eph coach Dave Paulsen is, to date, leading Bucknell to a great year.  Led by all-American candidate Mike Muscala, the Bison are 10-1 with impressive wins over Purdue, George Mason, and Lasalle.  Bucknell and Lehigh are both far better teams than the Patriot League typically produces.

Interesting game last night that provides another view of the talent difference between D3 and Div 1....at least on a particular night.  Yale, not known for a Ivy League power to date, played Albertus Magnus (?), the D3 college in New Haven.  The score was 112-63, Yale.  AM of the GNAC is ranked in the D3 top 25.  The score difference is larger than the one between UNLV and D3 La Verne.  Based on the write-up on the GNAC board, it was not a good night for Albertus and the depth of Yale was too much.

You low brow, low life - take that for daring to have a scintilla of belief that you just might be able to compete even marginally in basketball or at any other endeavor with vaunted, chosen Yalies.
