So sorry for the double here, but is anyone else as excited as i am for the guys DVC/Wilkes game tonight?  Also, the Miseri/King's game, not to mention the slumping  :( Sixers/Nets game - Holy smokes, i'll be racing between live stats, TV, & the D3 Scoreboard until they're over.  The MAC will be announcing their post-season awards today or tomorrow, right?  Gotta get some things done around the house today, too!

BJ - DSU SID

Kate...I am excited for lots of things.  Spring weather being one of them...anytime you are ready 50+ plus degree temps.

The NBA however is not on my list...can't stand those over-paid, play hard 1/4th of the time, pampered athletes.  College hoops is so much more entertaining.

As for post-season awards...I think we moved them back to next week so as to not be a distraction to the teams in the post-season.  So your gonna have to wait a week for those to be announced.

kate

O.K., i'm for Miseri in tonight's Freedom game at 7 with King's, but in checking the time on the Miseri site, i noticed that they didn't mention at all that our Kim Vennera hit the big 1,000 at the game.  Ya might want to acknowledge something like that in future write-ups.  Go Cougars!

Jon

Kate, I gotta be honest, not a whole lot of SIDs are going to mention a 1,000 point scorer for the visiting team.  Had the game been at DVC I would guess the Misericordia folks wouldn't have known at all.  Mr. Levy did a fine job recapping Vennera's milestone on the Del Val site.

Darnell Braswell scored his 1,000th at the Vern on Saturday.  The PA announcer mentioned it (in a well-scripted announcement provided by BJ - DSU SID might I add), but we didn't mention it in our postgame story and DSU SID did.

Honestly I think that's a fairly common treatment of the occurrence.

I didn't mean to hop on this box, but while I'm here...I've seen a bunch of different ways to handle the 1,000 point plateau ranging from classy to ridiculous.  I was at a game a few years ago where the game was stopped for five minutes while the team came out on the floor for a photo, the family came out of the stands with flowers--it was a circus.

Two years ago a player from Immaculata scored 1,000 points late in the game during a loss in the conference final.  There was a picture taken after the game with the player, the ball, and the coach...the expression on the young man's face rendered the photo essentially useless.

It's a great individual milestone in a team sport.  Clap for it once when it happens, give the player a painted ball during a pregame ceremony at a later date, and put his/her name on the wall.  After that let's get some wins.

Point taken Jon, but if i remember, MU didn't even give the high point stats for DVC - heck, they WON!  We're really like a family here in the MAC - we try and murder each other during that regular season, but come post season, it's ALL MAC!  It would be nice to just acknowledge the high point player of the other team - winning or losing.  i personally hope that you and everyone at Alvernia enjoyed your first year in the Mid Atlantic Conference.  GO MAC!!!

Jon

Kate, we have enjoyed it in the Freedom this season...as for the mention I'd chalk that up to different strokes for different folks.

Kate, Jon,

Interesting conversation.  Since Kate is critiquing my work, allow me to chime in.

The game/milestone in question was played at Delaware Valley.  I didn't know about Kim Vennera scoring her 1,000th point until I read Kate's post tonight.

Honestly, even if it were played at Misericordia, I still wouldn't mention it in my game story.

Ironically, I don't recall any visiting player reaching a milestone in our gym in all my years in this business.

The person who says something can't be done shouldn't stand in the way of the one who's doing it.

kate

Heck, Lefty, don't you usually at least mention the other team's high scorer.  Anyway, like CJ on the guy's site said this morning, he's a little cranky cause they have an away game at DeSale's  Wed. night.  i'm more than a little cranky cause ALL my teams went down, Del Val, Miseri, Marywood, AND, BJ, my Sixers! >:(  The Cedar Crest Falcons pulled one out last night, however.  Go Falcons!

Kate,

In a word - no.  I don't normally mention the names of opposing players.

From the ironically ironic department, Misericordia's Lacey DeGraw scored her 1,000th career point last month against your beloved Aggies.

I didn't see any mention of the fete on the Del Val website, but I don't remember you complaining then.

Well, Lefty, since i already said on this site after the DVC OT loss to you guys, "can we have her", referring to Lacey, & believe me, if i'd known it would have been mentioned, i still say, it's customary to at least say the high point player of the opposing team.  Check out the King's article on your game last night.  Yes, i know it was a very important play-off game, but while i was eating breakfast this morning & reading it, i felt i was there.  Here too, i hope you felt that it was a good first year in the MAC.  Also, please know that the guys at DVC probably cringe  sometimes when they realize what i've posted.  i'm just a rabid Aggie fan  :)

Kate,

I just find it odd that you complained about Venerra not getting mentioned on the Misericordia website for scoring her 1,000 point when the exact same thing happened when DeGraw scored her 1,000th point.

If other SID's want to mention opposing players in their game recaps- and many do - that is fine.

Lefty, when i hopefully meet you at that first Aggie/Cougar game in the 09-10 season you will see that i'm every bit the monster i seem to be on the site   ;)  Seriously, whatever it takes to hype the game (not that our MAC shoot-outs aren't exciting enough!)

lefty2

No problem Kate.

I don't anticipate having a 1,000th point scorer next year.
