Calvin wins the MIAA championship over Trine 70-57.  The Knights were very good, clearly the best team this weekend.  Hannah Sall was a force inside both offensively and defensively with her rebounding and shot blocking, and Fernandez and Larue were draining 3s from outside.  Fernandez makes this team go, she can get to the rim as well.  MIAA WBB as a whole is improving which is good for the league.  I don't foresee it as a Hope/Trine 'twosome' that had been commonplace for the last 8-9 years or so.  Congratulations Calvin, well deserved.

Rough way for the season to end for the Flying Dutch.  Really felt like they could have done some damage in the big dance, but just didn't get that one more win that likely would have had them in. Seniors Brooklyn, Courtney, Olivia, and Jada end their careers with a 103-12 record and a 2022 National Championship!  We will also see them across teh Hope career record book:

Courtney Lee
FG% - 0.502 (15th)

Olivia Bellows
3FG Made - 100 (13th)
3FGA - 279 (13th)
3FG% - 0.358 (20th)
FT Made - 173 (24th)

Jada Garner
Games played - 112 (17th)
FG% - 0.475 (23rd)

Congratulations to Trine's Sidney Wagner for being selected to play in the WBCA All-Star game preceding the NCAA DIII Women's National Championship game.  I believe Sidney is the second Trine WBB athlete to be selected, alum Brandi Dawson was also selected following her stellar career at Trine.  Congratulations Sidney, well deserved!

Watched some of Sidney's games v Hope over her career; yes, well deserved!
I attended the inaugural women's all-star in 2019 in which Brandi Dawson played. Scranton was in that Final 4 and our legendary coach Mike Strong was 1 of the all-star game coaches. Was 1 step away from returning to the Final 4 this year at the same 2019 site but not to be.

Hope's schedule has been posted - link below.

Non-conference games at Home vs Colorado College, Ohio Wesleyan, (Carthage, Franciscan, IWU - 2 of those 3 in a tournament TBD), and Hardin-Simmons

Non-conference games on the road vs UW LAX, UW River Falls, Oglethorpe, and Pacific Lutheran (@ Oglethrope).

The Hardin-Simmons game is an interesting scheduling anomoly, as it will be played in Holland on Feb 11, with only 3 conf games remaining after that game.  Latest non-con in a long time, and its against a tough opponent!

Typical tough schedule for Hope.  Assuming they get Carthage and IWU in the TBD tournament, they are facing (based on last years stats):

4 NCAA tournament teams
5 top 50 in NPI
7 top 100 in NPI
Avg NPI rating of all 9 opponents is 86
Those 9 teams avg 0.690 W/L

Adrian has finally posted a schdedule - although it currently shows 11 non-con games and with 9 MIAA women's teams that is 2 too many.  I suspect the exhibitions are Lourdes on 11/1 (since that predates when "real" games can be played), and likely Ohio Dominican (D2) on 12/30.  Of note - Hardin-Simmons will be playing @ Adrian (2/13) two days after they play @ Hope (2/11).

Trine WBB have posted a roster and 5 underclassmen do not return (I think I heard most of them graduated).

JR Jada Rhonehouse - 608 minutes
JR Alexis Snodgrass - 94
JR Jordan Walters - 52
JR - Allie Walther - 21
SO Sydney Horton - 173

Trine returns 43.8% of their 2024-25 scoring production, currently 327th most in the division.

Division-wide scoring return % is currently 60.31%.

As a league the MIAA currently returns 4th most of any league, 68.53%. A lot of that is driven by Kalamazoo (87.4%) and Adrian (85.4%).

Looking only at teams that won 0.700+ last year, the MIAA returns 19th most (54.76%).

Yes, this will be a very young team with only 1 starter returning.  Sidney Wagner (3 year starter), Katie Tate (3 year starter), Sierra Hinds (2 year starter) and Jada Rhonehouse (2 year starter) have all graduated.  Jada had one more year of eligibility but is not returning.

Senior Erin Sherwood returns as a starter in the post after having a solid Junior season and being named 1st team All-MIAA.  There is uncertainty on who will fill the other slots as the pre-season competition will be wide open.  I'd think that Junior wing Allison Capouch will slide into the lineup.  Soph Zoe Willems will also be one who should join the starters.  Soph Hailey Cole was Erin's backup last season and will be counted on much more this year.  Addison Hutson will be back for her senior year after being in the bench rotation last year.  I think junior Olivia Marks should also compete for some playing time.

There are 18 sophomores and freshmen listed on the roster, only 5 seniors and juniors.  There is one transfer, Gracey Metz from D2 Lake Superior State.  She has good size which is what we need.  This will be very unlike the Trine teams of the past with very little returning scoring other than Sherwood.

Calvin & Hope should be the top 2 teams this year.  Calvin returns almost everyone from last year's MIAA tournament champions.  Hope will be very good again too.  After that who knows.
