Great start to the season by the Flying Dutch winning two games in Wisconsin against good teams. Calvin lost to those same two teams, but I noticed that Pre-Season AA Anna Fernandez didn't play in either game for the Knights.  Is she injured?

Hope beats Colorado College by 24, which beats Calvin by 3, which beats Ohio Wesleyan by 25 . . . making Hope a 52 point favorite against Ohio Wesleyan? . . . to which it loses by three . . . a demonstration of the unpredictability that makes sport fun, and is why the only comparison that counts is head-to-head on the court.

Hope with a nice opening MIAA win (earliest ever MIAA win perhaps) over Alma 85-59.  Hope is quite a young team.  5 games into the season, there are 8 players averaging double digit minutes: 2 Sr, 2 Jr, 3 So, and 1 Fr.

The win was also Hopes 1000th all time win in women's basketball!!  Record stands at 1000-355 - 0.738 win percentage

Hope's minutes weighted Class Year is 2.54, so right between a Soph and a Junior. They are the 140th youngest team in D3.

Oldest team is Mass-Dartmouth, at 3.98.

Rest of MIAA

Hope won at Kalamazoo on Sat as expected by a large margin.  Couple of items of interest

- Was great to see Grayson Guy get some minutes returning from an ankle injury - thought Katie Blazei has playing extremely well in her abscence.
- All 16 players for Hope scored
- Odd statistical numerology (I guess that's how I'd catogorize it).  Hope had 25 more FG attempts, 25 less turnovers, and 25 more FT attempts than the Hornets

Nice win for Trine over Hope last night.  I wasn't sure how we'd match up with a talented Hope squad, especially with our leading scorer Erin Sherwood out with injury.  She hurt her knee in the 4th quarter of the St Mary's game last Saturday.  It didn't look good, I don't know the extent of her injury but I'm assuming it is season ending which is tough being this is Erin's last year at Trine.

We are so young, there were times we had 3 freshmen and 2 sophs on the court.  But they didn't seem to be afraid of the big matchup.  Freshman PG Annika Southworth is gonna be solid, she ended with 17 points including a couple big back-to-back 3 pointers in the 4th quarter.  Soph Madison Wagner (I don't think she is related to Sydney but don't know for certain) came off the bench with a career high 21 points including 4-5 from behind the arc.

We defended the Richard girls pretty well all night.  Vis had a nice 1st half and then Maynard did a good job in the second half getting to the rim and finishing.  Petroelje struggled with her shot but did hit a couple of 3's in the closing minute.

Trine with good team defense and rebounding considering Hope had the height advantage at almost every position.  Oliva Marks is a very good rebounder for being only 5'9.  Our bench is a bit more productive than Hope.  This is unlike all those great Hope squads in recent years who had so much quality depth.

Hope will be alright, maybe they underestimated this young Thunder squad.  That won't happen in the rematch up in Holland the last game of the regular season.
