Did any other SJU season ticket holders get an email yesterday from Marilyn on e-Tickets?

yes. And I checked the "available ticket" seat chart and it appears the "regulars" are returning and not giving up their seats!

The additions of MAC and CSS help the conference in multiple areas.  First of all restores Mac to a conference member in all sports which is beneficial for them and for travel.  I get Mac isn't going to win much in football, but it is nice having them as part of the conference.  They probably hold the MIAC together in the long term.  There are a few people in the St. Olaf administration that wanted St. Olaf to return to the Midwest Conference, and I would venture to guess Carleton was also looking.  With travel costs down it probably made some sense to join the Midwest Conference.  I think the addition of CSS was more about hockey and balance in sports than anything.  The MIAC was at 9 football schools which isn't a terrible number unless you divide in to divisions.  I think divisions within in the conference might be coming especially for women's sports.  As for hockey with UST leaving the MIAC was down to 8 teams.  If a school fails, drops hockey, or leaves for a greener pasture then that puts the MIAC in a tough position with hockey.  Who knows maybe the MIAC will bring back skiing.  The only D3 schools in the Midwest that sponsor it at the NCAA level are in the MIAC.

Is the conference going to use the divisions in anything other than football? My assumption was that it was a football only thing, but I could very well be wrong about that.

I think they can make the schedule work in every other sport without having to divide things into divisions.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Yes.
I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree but, I am under the impression is the QR code(s) are unique to each seat and for each game.

Good to hear.  Rapids continues to represent.

Today's the regular weekly call back home so I'm sure the old man will let me know as well.  He frequently relays to me how he was smashed playing golf against some retired or future NHL player.  Last week he had Mike Antonovich in his foursome team and they won whatever the comp was.  Brushing shoulders with the rich and famous, eh?

Following on from previous discussions, I wonder if this is something.  Minnesota based as well.

How intent are high school students on pursuing four-year degrees?

According to a new report from Minnesota-based ECMC Group and VICE Media, only 25% of the 3,000 Generation Z teenagers they surveyed believe the traditional college model is the only pathway to getting a good job.

Only about half of those polled said they are likely to pursue a four-year plan. With their options increasing and with uneasiness over their own financial futures growing because of the pandemic, this next wave of education seekers is poised to have vastly different outcomes than their predecessors.

How many schools will survive?  This mixed with the mess that is going on at the D1 level with realignment and NIL has to have more than few people in higher education concerned.

We’ll, I reckon govt will subsidise the education sector even more. To a near universal degree would not surprise me.  And I think universities will really start to differentiate offers into something like experience-led (party schools, etc), vocation-led (professional certifications and the like) and similar. Religious institutions, etc.

Even with nearly free higher education the sector will need to compete more intensely, I suspect.

I have an interesting example. My youngest nephew graduated from SJU in May, Global Business Leadership. He's going be a missionary for a year, when he comes back he'll decide what he'll do with his life. He has student debt, but I don't know how much. A high school classmate of his, works for us in our shop- he went the two year technical route. He worked for us as an apprentice while he attended school. He made almost $70K last year as a 22 year old young man. He has a new car, has purchased a house and has a newish motorcycle. He had no student debt. We will find out in 20 years who made the right choice.

@105;

Yes, it's an interesting discussion.   Here in Oz graduate education for citizens is 100% subsidised by the gov't.  Students pick up about 25% of the cost as a zero debt loan which is automatically deducted from future pay slips after they attain a given income level, but they never pay it back if income stays low or other shenanigans.

Even with that "free" aspect, higher-ed is seeing a huge shift.  Foreign students make up over 50% of enrolees here in Aus.  University education is the nation's fourth largest export industry.  And of the Aussies who pursue a higher education, women are approaching 60%.  Men are increasingly going into vocations, trades and small business.  It's interesting to witness the trends happening even here where the immediate and long term cost pressures on the students/families are significantly less.

One interesting aspect of "free" higher education is that private prep schooling is very strong in Australia.  In fact, I've been told that Melbourne has the highest ratio of private schools per capita of any major city in the world (although I haven't seen stats with my own eyes which back that claim up - not having bothered to look).  So families which in the US may take on the expense of higher education instead move that spend to private high school (and junior school) education here in Australia.

Anyways, it will be interesting to see how this all develops over time.  Hopefully, all of the MIAC stays strong.
