Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I'd like the Clemens Boys to pull it out.

While I tend to agree that it's best if Johnnies don't procreate, I don't think I can support this as a Catholic.

(Sorry Pat, if you need to ban me for this I respect it  ;D)

That's probably from four Johnnie fans- can't take it seriously.

Exactly. Our team is unbiased and data driven. Logan Hansen would be proud.

Isn't this ^^^^^^^^^  Logan Hansen?

Yup. As I said, our prognostications haven't come out yet. Clearly many probably favor the Johnnies tomorrow.  They've earned that. They don't lose too often. They are playing at home.  I've read that they have many guys back. They have legit All-Americans on their roster. Including maybe the QB this year. They have an abundance of upper division transfers. They are so fast they mention their 40 times in their pregame notes.  Their teams always execute well. They've got a great head coach. They have rabid fans who make it very hard on opponents. An incredible atmosphere for the home team. They have always been a disciplined team who plays the game the right way. They have a rich history of success that seems to carry over into the ethos of each new team. Have I mentioned Johnnie Magic, yet?

We've lost many stars from last year. We've lost many coaches from last year.

But I can confirm that our team has left Whitewater and is on its way.  So it appears we are going to give it a go. We will do our best with what we have to compete with you for as long as we can.

UW-W- The little train that could.

Wow did the Cobbers win ugly at Valley City State last night. The only bright spot was the W—and perhaps some special teams play. They got more yards by penalty than by either air or ground forces. Only 3 of 12 on 3rd down conversions. They were easily out-gained and outmuscled by VCS, but somehow squeaked this one out. It was a penalty flag plague. Lots of wrinkles to iron out before MIAC play.

Even more painful was the "color commentator" for the VCS broadcast. Laughed at everything he or his partner said...every...single...time (heh, heh, heh). Downright nauseating to listen to...heh, heh, heh. Really got old...heh, heh, heh.

Just had to vent a little...heh, heh, heh.

The Cobbers finally on the right side of magic though?  I'm not certain, but did they score as time expired to get the win?

Thanks for the reminder that the Cobbers lost 5 close ones last season. Yes..I am grateful they were able to turn the fates, but it was brutal. Cobbers were penalized for about 120 yards...mostly in the first half. Vikings were penalized for about 170, mostly later and cost them two player ejections.

No, this was not a last minute offensive drive to get the Cobber victory. Quite the opposite. It was the partial block of a VCS field goal attempt with 9 seconds to go that sealed the victory.

Valley City State received votes in the NAIA preseason poll. It's so hard to tell, but seems as if it's a coin flip between the better teams/conferences in NAIA/Division III. Glad the Cobbers prevailed!

I certainly share that joy as well. I may have overlooked some timely defense too. Cobbers gave up a lot of yardage, but had a couple very critical stops and/or turnovers. Offense sputtered though. A couple nice passes shattered in receivers' hands and the like. Plenty to work on...but it was the first game, right?

I have an exciting double header of football tomorrow.   First the Johnnies open their season in a clash of the titans.  Then, #3 closes her footy season in the South Metro Junior Football League Under 18 Women's Division 2 Grand Final (whoever came up with that title never had to save copy space).  Excitement all around.

If you were to peruse the 20 page game notes, you'd find a multitude of pointless stats.

And an embarrassing typo on the cover ...

Seen pulling into the parking lot in Valley City.  The Cobber supporters were ready to rumble.

Looks like a Ford Pinto body with a Chevy pickup grill stuck in front. Not sure where the canopy came from......
