The Ezra Cleveland trade resulted in Bartch getting released. Hope he catches on somewhere.

Strange, because he started a few games early this year. I also saw him referred to as a locker room favorite by one reporter.

Bartch signed to the Jags practice squad today.

As much as I know Duffman hates basketball i think I found a version of it he could appreciate!

Greg's take on initial Regional Rankings and how they effect the MIAC.
QuoteEveryone who was quick to dismiss St. John's as a playoff contender after their loss to Gustavus Adolphus may have left the party too soon. St. John's has an excellent SOS and if they can hold on to their ranked wins versus Trinity (this feels very safe) and Bethel (which will require Bethel to win the MIAC championship), the Johnnies, incredibly look more likely than not to be in the field. How's that for Johnnie Magic?
...
Pool C Watch Alert: Teams in the at-large pool will be hoping that St. John's picks up another loss either this week against St. Olaf or in the MIAC crossover week, probably against Augsburg. The Johnnies beat Augsburg 27-24 earlier this year, so this could be within reach. The best case scenario for Pool C teams watching the WIAC race is probably to be rooting for La Crosse to run the table. That will get Whitewater in the field through Pool C, but that's better than a WIAC tri-championship, where River Falls qualifies through Pool A, and Whitewater and La Crosse are both viable Pool C candidates. Unless Eau Claire or Stevens Point can do the unthinkable and defeat Whitewater, the Warhawks are getting in to this tournament.

The rare scenario where SJU has to begrudgingly hope Bethel wins the MIAC Championship  ;D

I'm expecting a much closer contest at Olaf today than the 28.5 spread in the pickems.
Gut feeling is the margin will be in the 7-10 range in the fourth quarter.

Guess that's why we're on upset alert. https://www.d3football.com/notables/2023/11/quick-hits-week10

Have to admit, pretty decent MIAC slate of games for last week excitement. Gusties vs Carleton, Johnnies vs Oles, and Royals vs Cobbers. Championship week has the potential for a lot of movement at the top or it could all go as planned.

Crazy that Northfield could be the epicenter of some MIAC drama.
I think BU comes out on fire and plays inspired in light of Johnson's retirement announcement. GAC might struggle early but rolls the knights...i think playing on a grass field has to be a little odd...most of these players haven't played more than 1 or 2 games on grass during the college years.
Johnnies sputter a week after blowing out an overmatched CSS but seal the win in the fourth quarter...win by about two touchdowns.

Hot carls today?

Last home game...could be senior day.
They've beat Concordia...barely beat Olaf and got pummeled by SJU and BU...maybe they're due for a big game and maybe GAC is looking ahead to championship week?

I find today's matchups very interesting in that there are largely 2 to 4 touchdown spreads, but enough underdog energy to turn the tides in any of them. Conversely, in each case one could also see the favorite blowing a large spread out of the water. It's probably best tossed salad of matchups all season. The only one I would go out on a limb for is Augsburg, as I think they will do a cakewalk all over the Scots.

I hope we see best efforts around the board today, and it will be fun to see how this all pans out.

Oh, and go Cobbers!
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

I wonder if the lack of an in-season bye week is hurting them. They looked so, so uninspired in the few minutes I watched of the Bethel game. Obviously Bethel is the better team, but there were opportunities for Carleton early on. Curtis, did not look good, misfiring balls at WRs feet and so on. Maybe they're looking ahead to finals week. I hope not, I'd love to see them play to their potential today even if it still isn't good enough for the win.
