Retired Old Rat

Never knew about the Butcher Shop.  Der Keller was the place we had available on campus.  3-2 beer and peanuts.  Very quaint place.

Want to venture a guess what was the only tap beer selection at the Butcher Shop?

Stinking' cake eaters of Edina. Rapids was so close to another shot at the state championship. Well, for third place we go.

Good for him, love to see Bartch still on a roster!

U$T has some unhappy neighbors. Love that the sign has red as the background.  ;D

I really like the planter box you have at the end of your driveway Faunch  ;)

In all seriousness, what actual power/recourse do the neighbors have to prevent this arena from being built?

Mi casa is about 2.5 to the southeast of that.
The neighbors likely have no recourse...I totally understand why they would be pissed. Yes the University was there when they bought their house...but it wasn't a Division 1 institution with a 5,500 seat arena. They wanted to build it down by the old Ford plant site...that's a little close to home and I wasn't too thrilled with the idea. It could have made a trip to the new Lund's and Byerly's a pain in the butt.
Cretin Ave and Summit are extremely busy residential streets and there will be events that arena 20-25+  weekends a year (minimum). That said the only games that will likely sell out will be men's basketball and hockey. I checked U$T women's hockey box scores for games at SCSU and MSU and those games barely draw 300 fans.

Checked out the website, I think they were pretty close to mentioning Touchdown Tommy in this paragraph:

"The University of St. Thomas dismisses the effect on a neighborhood when large crowds park on the streets. Alone, one vehicle parking can cause a disturbance with closing doors, beeping alarms, and loud conversation. Crowds attending sporting events magnify those disturbances, with people in the crowd disregarding the presence of the houses they pass. Because the arena will serve alcohol, the noise level will be louder and the behavior will be more disturbing. UST wholeheartedly intends to garner maximum crowds for exciting events, and then to release the crowds into the residential neighborhood each night. If UST cannot contain its own crowds, it should not build an arena."

Kind of reminds of Josh Parks getting blasted at the goal line a few years ago....not really but just wanted to take a cheap shot.

Any word on how Alex Larson did at Minnesota's pro day? Would be fun to see another Johnnie drafted & on an NFL roster!
