Quote from: Redtooth on Yesterday at 08:55:05 PMAn article came out today about D1/FBS NIL and the cost to play with the big boys......last fall Ohio State spent just north of $20MM for the roster that won the National Championship.  For the upcoming season, Texas is said to be spending between $35-40MM.  Those teams hoping to compete into the playoffs will likely all have $20MM payrolls this fall.  The cost of doing business will escalate until the courts force a salary cap.
Nick Sabin said recently in an interview that he would not coach college football with the current NIL structure in place. His exit clearly shows that he is a man of his word.

Nick also had the famous quote last year on the first Game Day of the season, "if you don't pay the right guys, you'll be $hit out of luck"

In terms of him not coaching with the current NIL structure in place, his new ESPN contract of $438MM gives him plenty of reasons to stand on his word.  He is unbelievably skilled at his current role.

Yeah, the cynic in me could also read it as "I [Saban] preferred coaching in the days when SEC boosters gave us a cutting edge advantage. This whole everyone is allowed to pay players is for suckers!"

Some clarity on Lamker-gate.

Apparently he's on paid administrative leave at Augsburg. Not sure the goal was ever to coach both teams as much as it was he had a window to ensure a landing spot at Osseo. I think he saw the writing on the wall in Minneapolis. But he did try to convince his DC to do the double duty gig initially. So maybe there was a part of him that thought double HC was possible, while at the same time he made sure he had a gig if things played out like he foresaw with his Alma Mater??

Timing sucks for Augsburg. Do you have time to hire the next guy or do you go with an interim for next season? I don't lose any sleep over Augsburg's rising or falling, but they are closer to becoming a Hamline than breaking into the top Tier.

IMO the MIAC has no need for more teams ranked in the bottom 25% of D3 Football. The league is better, and the top teams more battle hardened, when there is a healthy middle 50% of the league that can compete regionally and give the top teams a genuine push on a consistent basis.

Pat Coleman

Plus Augsburg with a change at athletic director as well only complicates that question.

I'm sure Saban is paid well at ESPN, but that number just seems like a wild guess, I can't find any reputable source supporting it.

This made me chuckle.  Lamker talked a big game when he was hired but couldn't back it up with any notable results.  To quote one of my teammates, "F*** Augsburg!"

@Duff, don't you live in Lamker's neighborhood or something? Guess you'll have to troll him with a Maple Grove sweatshirt and SJU hat or something on the dog walks now.

DuffMan

I don't think he's in our immediate neighborhood, but he's close enough that I've seen him out walking, on occasion.  I'm not above trolling him, much like I'm not above trolling the house down the street that flies a Bethel flag on fall Saturdays.  ;)

That was my first thought exactly.  He preferred to operate when he had a concealed advantage, and were good and out-maneuvering the rules in order to compensate players.
