Retired Old Rat

I don't know if the emerpor has clothes or no clothes.

What I do know is that he deserves a little respect for all he's accomplished.  And the fashion in which he's accomplished it.

The problems are obvious.  The solutions perhaps not as obvious.

Personally, I think it's time to move on from this discussion.

One man's opinions.

Good luck to the Johnnies tomorrow.  And especially to Ben Krebsbach on his first collegiate start.  I know where to find his dad and uncle tomorrow.

ROR.  I agree.  And, while many here may disagree, I have shown as much deference as I can muster, which admittedly may not be enough.

Point of illustration:  I believe sfury mentioned that his nephew was pining for Glen Mason.  I am a graduate of the U of MN, a season ticket holder from 1983 until 2007, at which time another team captured my interest.

In short, Glen Mason was one of the worst game day/in-game college coaches to ever coach.  I made those thoughts very clear the next home game after the infamous Michigan loss when I parked in my spot at the Metrodome and several coaches wives to umbrage to the fact that I would highlight GM's record by month of the season on the windows of my Yukon XL and quote some of the lame ass shxx he said in response to that loss.  I also took time to make those thoughts clear to the AD and the President.

As I have noted before, I am really not a stakeholder in the same sense that many of you are, but having "invested" four years with SJU, and having seen what I think I saw, and knowing what I think I know, it is really, really hard to watch the state of denial – that is until last weekend.

Again. my wish is that JG at his own time, but this year, with grace and dignity, announce his retirement.  No further good can come to his legacy or the institution at this stage of the game.

Like me, dislike me, but disagree with me at SJU's peril

This entire topic has grown stagnant.  Lots of outsiders looking in, speculating.  I realize it might make us feel better to piss and moan about it, but I, personally, have heard enough.  It won't do any good.

Bethel fans, you are welcome to join us for the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party before the game tomorrow in Collegeville. We are located above the scoreboard end of the field in the parking lot. The party gets going around 10:00 a.m.. Bring a culinary delight to share if you like.

Bethel fans,

If you don't take up the Godfather on this invitation, you are cheating yourself.  Great people, and the burgers are the heat.  You'll be glad you went!

I just wish I could attend the game!

So do I, Hazz.  Been three years since my last game and visit to the festivities.

Quick "where are they now?" segment for the SJU crowd.  Greg Siebert, SJU '96, is now the head coach of the Pensacola Catholic High School Crusaders.  His team was featured on the local Friday night prep football highlights show, and was proudly wearing and SJU ball cap during his interview.  Small world, two former MIACers coaching football in the panhandle of Florida. 8-)

Johnnies 1-3 at home?  What happened to the mystique of Collegeville?

Pipers outscored 88-0 over last three games.

Scots 2-0 over last two.

Ouch! That's just demoralizing for a team.

Bethel/SJU game much closer than the final score of 41-20. SJU played a very good first half to lead 14-13 at half time. Bethel turned the ball over a couple of times in their own territory in the 3rd quarter but SJU could only get 6 points out of the turnovers. If they could have gotten at least 1 td it might have been a different outcome. Bethel's offense finally took over the last 5 minutes of the game pounding a tiring SJU defense.

Looks like the Bethel/St Thomas game is shaping up to be a good game as St. Thomas showed today that they can be slowed down as they only scored 17 on the Auggies.

Somebody a year ago posted in the comment section of the SC Times that the cupboard was bare at SJU.  Didn't think it was true or could happen.  All I can say now is "wow, that was prescient."  Also disagree with sfury.  Down year for sure but the program itself is down and has been as we've seen a diminution or, better word, erosion in talent since 2004 or at least 2008

Here's an interesting stat. Hamline scored their only points of the season so far against Augsburg. In fact they scored more against Auggie than UST did. Augsburg is obviously making that look more and more like an anomaly.

That said, Hamline finishes the season with this nice little stretch of games:

10/15    at St. Thomas
10/22    Concordia-Moorhead
10/29    at St. Olaf
11/5    at Bethel
11/12    St. John's

Good luck with that  :o

Has a team ever been shut out in 90% of its games in a season? And if they are, do you just turn right around and fire your first year head coach? That's obviously assuming quite a bit about the last 5 games, but the road is about to get a whole lot more difficult for Hamline...

I once asked kilted rat if onearmedscot really just had one arm. He laughed and said "no, he's fully armed."

I miss KR. I see he's going to be a dad.
