I would like to join in your comments Bench!

Glenn Caruso will not be the Tommie Coach in 2012!

However, the Pioneer Press had a nice article on him today.  It's the one Bob Sansavere did.

Agreed!  Although, reading stories like that makes it tougher to hate the guy  :-\

That dude's got some hairy arms!

Don't see it. A guy who's coached/recruited Lamar Gordon, Steffan Logan and handful of NFL players, on his way up the coaching ladder at soon-to-be FCS schools in NDSU and USD, decides to take the head job at Mac. Not Northern St., UM-Crookston, MSU-Moorhead, or any other NSIC school he was more than qualified to take over, but Macalester. You take a job like that because you like the city, not because you want to climb a coaching ladder.

Caruso isn't dumb though, UST has an upside and he brought Mac as far as anyone could possibly take it. At the very least he laid some ground work for Mac to maybe find a conference to affiliate themselves with. I don't see him going anywhere, unless it's in the Cities, and I don't think he views Concordia-St. Paul as a step up, and there's no chance he'll end up at the U of M. If he does go somewhere, that means a school came calling that was simply too good to pass up in a city he feels like he can raise his kids in. People say he's thrown his hat in the ring for a number of other jobs, I've never seen any proof of that. After 4 years, maybe it's time to take him at his word.

So, in closing, St. Olaf is going to the Stagg Bowl this year.

If Caruso likes St. Paul, he should check out Collegeville  ;D  He does seem to have a thing about turning programs around.  :P

"Dear John" letter...

I scanned around to see if any chat had erupted regarding St. Cloud Time's Dave Deland's column following the Johnnies loss to Bethel.  Not a word on this board but a flurry of comments from readers have shown up including The D3 Guru.

Personally I didn't think there was much conversation regarding an ousting of SJU's head man but according to Deland it's all the rage.

Either The Times or Dave don't know how to tag their columns or it was purposely buried... almost impossible to find however here's the link for easy reading... http://www.sctimes.com/article/20111009/SPORTS/110090015/DeLand-column-s-just-too-soon-Dear-John-

Obviously, I've also been hacked. Bench continues to be a "person of interest". New security measures are in place and all of you pick'em wannabes will soon me seeing my tail lights far off in the distance.

Hamline (+60.5) @ #3 St. Thomas

Can't say I ever seen that line before.

I picked Hamline. Not sure Caruso is comfortable with beating a team by 40/50/60 without giving his 3-deeps an opportunity to play, which has been when UWRF, STO and Concordia have been able to score their points.

@DustySJU,

I haven't heard much "bite the hand that feeds you" type dialogue but from a few passive football fans. They tend to be lazy, uninformed, and impatient (like Goofer fans). The nice thing about SJU is that their fanbase tends to know more about the game itself than your average rube.

But if Gags is going to stick around, a Mack Brown (Texas) approach might be needed. As in, a few assistants tasked with recruiting may need to look for work elsewhere before the attractiveness of an SJU job loses is luster.

And what's with Dave Deland calling out D3football.com? I haven't heard anyone on here saying Gags should go.

Finally (@ the rube on the SCtimes all pissed off about lights), who cares if they install lights? Does anyone even notice lights at a stadium? And why does it ruin the aesthetics? I'd say all the popcorn and Pepsi advertisements are worse than lights. All lights do is give you the ability to see when it's dark. Football under the lights is hardly a new-fangled 21st century concept that ruins the integrity of the game. Get a grip.

To close: Augsburg has the nicest athletic facilities in the MIAC by far.

The Tommies have put up 60 the past 2 seasons, and this particular batch of pipers is proving pretty adept at keeping the goose-egg on their end, so I thought 60 was a pretty safe spread.
