I finally went and counted. 44. And I saw a couple nice ones hidden in the forest that I had forgotten about. It was like getting two new ties. So a good exercise in its own right.

The world is quickly getting more relaxed and ties are far less common. In fact business shirt collars are now designed both for ties and for without ties.  Meetings are often described as tie-on or tie-off. A tie-on, jacket-on meeting is a doozy. Or you're meeting with some crusty old-school type that probably wears a tie in his pajamas.

I have only recently stopped wearing ties every day regardless.  For a long time I was far more productive when I had a tie on. It was my business game face.

I think ties are making a comeback, though.  I've noticed they are far more common this last year or so than they have been the last five.

Definitely not true in SE Michigan.  As recently as 7-8 years ago many restaurants enforced dress codes.  I can't think of a single one that would dare try that now - they'd quickly go out of business!  (Except perhaps as a novelty - the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island enforces an evening dress code, and people seem to like it.)

I have four ties.  Rarely wore them when I was teaching; now wear them basically for weddings and funerals (which are both currently fairly common - my son's friends are wedding age; my friends, alas, are funeral age :().

You and I got a mention on the NESCAC board. Check out the post by PolarCat. Got to be the epitome

Yeah, I saw his post.  I have no clue what I posted that set him off.

40 for myself... I attended a HS with mandatory ties as part of the dress code, so I've always looked forward to buying/wearing them.   These days I only wear one if I'm visiting potential customers.  But it seems most cities I visit in the US have a more casual feel to them.  With the exception of Washington DC.

I like wearing suits without a tie.

I don't much like ties but I admit to owning more than I care to acknowledge publically.  However in my defense I would point out that I can not remember the last time I wore one.  It's been years.

Just bought a new tie last night....oldest graduates high school at the end of the month. Thought I should try to class it up a bit. I pretty much only wear them only on significant occasions. If they bury me in one I'm going to haunt them till the day they die!

When Mount played St. John's at Alliance in 2001, I got to talk to some of the players from thr 2000 Johnnies team, who had graduated.

That was my junior year.  Ugh, that wasn't a real pleasant game.  The HOF was cool, though.

I was at that game.  Unpleasant in many ways.

What are your thoughts on bowties? It's a big thing out here in the spring/summer. Outside black/white tie events, it's not really my style.

OzJohnnie

Bow ties?  Nuh.  Outside of a black tie event, nope.  Unless you're in a profession in which a tie can interfere with your work, like a surgeon maybe, then I say stay well clear.

Oz, Australia's contribution to the Tigers, Warwick Saupold, got his first MLB win today.  He pitched a perfect 12th inning; the Tigers got a lead-off triple and a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the inning to finally win the pitchers' duel, 3-2.  All three (Saupold, JaCoby Jones [triple], and John Hicks [winning RBI]) are rookies - the re-building can be frustrating, but can also be exciting!  Meanwhile, former Tigers are leading early candidates for All-Star games and/or post-season honors. :P

I haven't heard of him but looking him up he see he's a Western Australian boy. They're grown big and strong in WA.

Oz Johnnie, Warwick Saupold (from Perth) got his first major league baseball save today.  His nickname (inevitably) is "Aussie".  Does he get any press down your way?

Not that I've seen. But I don't watch the evening news very often (I can only take getting pissed off so much, ya know?).

Baseball used to get much more coverage a few years ago. There was Nilsson (I think) who played catcher for the Brewers and was part of the first Aussie battery when the brewers picked up an Aussie pitcher.  There was an Aussie reliever that won a World Series with the Yanks a few years ago who got a lot of coverage.

There you go.  Not front of mind.  ;)

It's football season down here, Ypsi, what do you expect?
