Probably, I think my previous high was giving Carleton 60.5 in 2015.

HUGE news out of UST:  https://www.tommiesports.com/general/2018-19/releases/20180911f54zkt

It had been talked about in circles for the last 6-12 months. Now it appears official. I wonder if Doug Hennes's passing had an impact on this decision for Coach Fritz.

Does UST go the administrative route that seems to be the popular pathway these days or hand it back to another coach?

52 years is a good run but how about running everyday for more than 45 years (over 17,000 days)? Since there's not a D3 Cross Country forum I though I would post this here.

It's really rare that a coach gets this kind of position at a large department such as UST. There's a ton of administrative and development and marketing functions that this position would really require.

I'd be amazed if they don't go the administrative route.

Fritz will be tough to replace. Weathered a few storms, but found the right person to head the football team and made the right call hiring his own replacement with men's hoops. Also, fielding successful teams without an athletic facility for an entire year on a landlocked campus had to have been a logistical nightmare, but that transition went about as smooth as it could and now UST has some of the best facilities in DIII.

UST looks and feels like an entirely different place from when I went there in a positive way. I think Fritz recognized and was able to get others in positions of power to recognize that athletics, even at the DIII level, is the hood ornament of your university. Additionally, it took a basketball coach to recognize that football needed to be flagshipped for UST to really stand out, and in many ways, he is just as important to UST's football success as Glenn Caruso is.

Fritz really changed the athletic culture at UST, from middling/slightly-above-average to excellent/dominant in almost every sport UST participates in. That across the board success is not easy to obtain. Very curious as to who will take the reins now. Hopefully not Occidental's AD.

Almost certainly an administrative type and probably not an internal hire. This retirement is interesting with Michelle Morgan leaving just this year to go to John Carroll. I wonder if there is any chance they would bring her back home.

Always a tricky waltz when the heir apparent is ready to make the jump but the person at the helm just needs to see "one more project" through, or hang on for one more year.

Her name will be kicked around in these circles but not a chance. My guess would be that she took the John Carroll job because she wouldn't be considered for the UST job. Look for UST alum, former Concordia SP AD/Head Football coach, Frmr Hamline AD, Frmr UM Dir. of Football Operations, Dan O'Brien to be in the mix.

Pat Coleman

I figured the exact opposite, for what it's worth, that she wouldn't be considered for the UST job as an internal hire, so she went to JCU to get experience as an AD and be a better candidate at UST.

Would be an interesting hire. What's he doing now post-Gophers?

Back when I was a bank teller, he would come into [BANK I WORKED AT] to get cash for the Gopher's road trip per diem. Nice guy, always had a nice chat with him and he had some interesting stories.
