Now it's mostly band geeks (like my sister and her husband  ;) ).
At the time the coach, Al Molde, was recruiting guys coming out of the military.  Guys were older and more mature physically and mentally.

I would assume he came in to compete, lost job to Feeney this Spring, and now is looking elsewhere. Same thing happened with Pyron for the Gophers. Was in dinkytown for a couple months, lost QB competition, now going elsewhere. Becoming the norm.
The result of the  Nico & Madden Iamaleava NIL saga might have an impact of guys making a commitment and actually following through with it.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Got an extra $30K laying around?

"Luxury suites and premium seats
Anderson Arena will host up to 4,000 fans for men's and women's hockey and up to 5,000 fans for men's and women's basketball. The salespeople are busy trying to find buyers for the suites ($24,000 for a season of basketball games and $29,000 for a season of hockey).

Premium courtside and rinkside seats are also available for season ticket holders in basketball and hockey. You can join the Legacy Club for $2,650 or the Capital Club for $1,025 for hoop games and $1,075 for hockey games. There's even something called the Tommie Score, which offers points for being a season ticket holder, an alum (or spouse) and for donating money to the Athletic Department.

You need an unusually Tommie-connected target group to justify a $30k box.  It's a ****s and giggles investment for a Tommie tragic.  It's not a Gopher box where anyone would be interested in going, even non-Gopher fans.  Plus, the Gophers play teams that invitees may be interested in seeing.

Who knows?  Maybe the Tommies will have a one or two marquee D1 hockey and basketball teams playing in St Paul each year that will justify a big cash drop like that for the invites it enables.

For context on the NIL front, reliable sources say Matt Jung received upwards of $300k from Wisconsin to transfer to the Badgers.  :o

Good for him, hope he earns a starting spot, balls out, and can be our next former D3 in the NFL story.

On the flip side, Quinn Ewers said no to a reported $8m NIL offer to transfer from Texas (Longhorn coaches were ready to begin the Arch Manning era) to land in the 7th round with no certainty he'll make a roster, much less see year 2 of his rookie deal.

Bethel wouldn't match that?

Good for him, yes.  Sure does illustrate the insanity of money in D1 power conferences.

An article came out today about D1/FBS NIL and the cost to play with the big boys......last fall Ohio State spent just north of $20MM for the roster that won the National Championship.  For the upcoming season, Texas is said to be spending between $35-40MM.  Those teams hoping to compete into the playoffs will likely all have $20MM payrolls this fall.  The cost of doing business will escalate until the courts force a salary cap.

Nick Sabin said recently in an interview that he would not coach college football with the current NIL structure in place. His exit clearly shows that he is a man of his word.
