Quote from: art76 on September 02, 2025, 11:13:05 PMPlease bear with me for a spell. Over the summer I had a cochlear implant put in for the acute loss of hearing in my left ear that happened overnight about 4 years ago now. As my audiologist works with me, more and more avenues/vistas are getting opened again for me. So today for the first time I listened to the Podcast on Spotify on my phone by listening directly into my processor because I could connect to it via Bluetooth. To say Pat and Greg sure sounded funny would be an understatement - but, I could hear them again in my left ear! That's the miracle of modern technology. I'll still be learning to better discern what I'm hearing as the days go by - so very grateful for the doctors who have helped me in my journey from total and absolute deafness to being able to hear the human voice again.
Outstanding Art!
My sister and one of our cousins have cochlear implants, truly a blessing.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Quote from: OzJohnnie on September 02, 2025, 08:04:08 PMThere's a whole lot of turnover everywhere in the conference.  There's more uncertainty than normal this year, and perhaps wide open.  Everyone seems to have had substantial turnover all at the same time.  Unusual for sure.  But it will probably all be settled in the first few weeks of play when we see which programs have gelled quickly and which haven't.
I think the end of the extra Covid year has a lot to do with this.

It's time you replaced the swirling raspberry with a rocket launch anyways, Art.

You know, "sudo apt - get install"   ;)

(that's rocket science lingo, I'm thinking)

I am heading to the UWRF game Saturday at noon and drive up and catch the night game at Concordia Saturday night. Looking forward to a great day of college football. So great to have these Saturday's back! Looking forward to catching two great games!

Pat, and others, it's a command used by Debian branched Linux derivatives to install new programing from the repositories. Definitely nerdy lingo - ha!

I'll try to find a "rockety" Avatar that plays nice with the forum.

Quote from: Pat Coleman on September 02, 2025, 03:39:51 PMHe didn't register any stats but someone in the comments on the preseason All-America team said Jung got playing time in the Badger opener and played well.

Weird, I watched the whole game and even at the end when it was more likely to see him, I didn't catch him out there. I also figure it's only a matter of time until he's lining up starting with Zachmann as the other safety. (Definitely not Matt Jung's No 1 fan here)

Quote from: BigMark on September 02, 2025, 05:32:50 PMWhat does everyone think of the Cobbers this year? Coming off a 7-3 year and giving the Johnnies all they wanted, I think they are the sleeper in the MIAC this year. I have been following the MIAC for 20+ years and hoping that Coach Horan can take a big step this year. Excited to see they have added lights to their field and get a chance to open up with an NAIA opponent at 7pm to show it off!

I see it as follows:
St Johns
Concordia
Bethel
Gustavus
Augsburg
Carleton
St. Scholastica
St. Olaf
Hamline
Macalester

My prediction:
1. St Johns - Defending champs. New QB, but lots of players waiting.
2/3. Concordia/Bethel - Concordia teases me every year, but hasn't delivered a playoff caliber team in over a decade. Bethel brings back a ton of ground game production and the best/most proven QB in the league. D has playmakers to replace at every level (but also some really good young guys who were getting snaps all season). They love their recruiting class.
GAP
4. St. Olaf - They're slowly improving, and I think GAC is sliding.
5. Carleton - Non-con vs UWW is gutsy, not sure if it's smart.
6. Gustavus - graduated all their offensive firepower. I think they struggle this year. Keep waiting for them to push as a legit 2/3 team.
GAP
7. Augsburg - They are facing a potential cliff. Really don't like the HC timing or hire. He failed to land the full time job at Mac when it was being handed to him. I think they slide.
8/9/10. Mac, CSS, Hamline - pick the order. They'll get feasted on by the rest of the league, any of the 3 could steal a game from Augsburg. But it's bottom 3 for the foreseeable future.

GoldandBlueBU

I have similar feelings about Concordia - I thought they'd challenge BU last year based on their close game with SJU, but instead, BU administered a 49-16 beatdown.

Unless things have just really gotten away from Horan (which I don't think is the case) it's hard to see them not stepping into competing for a MIAC championship at some point soon.

That's the thing. I feel like I tell myself that every year with the Cobbers and seriously without looking it up can't remember the last time they were a threat to win the league. They've had some 3rd place finishes, but it seems like there's always one if not two beatdowns by the top teams.

Maybe this is their year though ...
