NBC honored this by saying he won the Small College defensive player of the year aware, out of Bethel College (KS)  :'(

Way to go guys!
Wisconsin should fire Fickell...but he's got a $40 buyout.

Sadly, after watching this train wreck of a game, I'd say STO is same ole, same ole, and Cobbers have no offense. None.

QuoteShutting Out the Pipers
The 59-0 victory is the third consecutive shutout of Hamline. The Johnnies have out-scored the Pipers 294-12 in their last five meetings. A total of 23 of the teams' 89 meetings have been shutouts in favor of SJU.

Fickel's buyout is 80% of whatever remains on his contract at the time of his firing.  I'm assuming you mean $40M+ which is the most current figure (2024).

Yes I meant $40 million...that's what i saw the last time I googled it. It looks like it drops to about $25 million after this season. I don't believe they'll get rid of him.

Johns Hopkins dismantled Susquehanna. I had heard that Susquehanna's running back that we struggled to contain had been out, but thought he was due to return. Between that and how Whitewater manhandled UMHB, for me, those are the two most surprising outcomes of yesterday's slate.

For those Johnnie fans that have watched/listened to our first two games, does anything stand out that we need to clean up or improve upon before we face Bethel? Will be interesting to see if Augsburg presents a challenge whatsoever or if we can extend our shutout streak to 3.

Hard to glean much from two double stomp-outs, and I think the only reason they won't stomp-out Auggie Tech is that it's homecoming and SJU will try to get everyone in the game.

The MIAC recap no-one asked for:

SJU disappoints, falling just shy of a Triple Stomp-Out over Hamline. Standards appear to be falling in Collegeville. Seriously, not sure what you can glean from a game like this, sadly there will be a lot more of these top vs bottom MIAC massacres.

St. Olaf outlasted the Cobbers. Defensive showdown or offensive pillow fight, Corn Horn would vote for the latter. 3 - 3 halftime tie, both teams with 14 first downs and under 3 ypc rushing. Difference was a long touchdown pass and one more turnover for St. Olaf.

Bethel started slow, but found the gas pedal in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, after a spark from a Devon Williams INT. Geebli broke 100 yds rushing on just 13 carries. 3 receivers topped 5 rec and 50 yds, but Drews is still finding his rhythm with the new toys. GAC passing attack dinked but never dunked, going 21 of 36 for just 124 yds. GAC ball carriers didn't like dinking or dunking, rushing for .9 ypc.

Carleton outsmarted Mac, reassuring them the Scotts could dominate TOP in exchange for the Knights getting 4 more first downs. The fine print was Carleton averaging 18.5 yards per catch and nearly 500 yds passing. 11 yards per play against an opponent that only threw for 78 yds is a recipe for disaster in the "Book of Knowledge" rivalry.

Speaking of pillow fights, Augsburg came out on top over St. Scholastica in a back and forth battle for early bottom of the league supremacy. A 14-0 1st quarter Saint's lead became a 23 all tie with 6 to play. It was all heartbreak in Duluth down the stretch as Augsburg's 321 yds through the air was too much for CSS's 235 yds rushing to counter.

Looks like we've got a 3-Tier league: within tiers it's fire, across tiers it's tears.

The national picture is slowly coming into focus for the Top 25. Sus got exposed by East front runner JHU, the WIAC looks as elite as it is deep with 2 wins over D2 and a pounding of UMHB. Keep an eye on Wheaton, the Thunder blew up Augustana, and their competitive loss to Mount Union looks better after seeing how the Raiders annihilated fellow top 25 Grove City.

GoldandBlueBU

MIAC football season is going to be one that features a lot of boredom for SJU and BU.  Only their matchup with each other seems to be of any real intrigue at this point, and with the non-conference games incentivized to be easy wins rather than good challenges, that creates one single regular season point of interest before the playoffs.

Probably even worse for SJU, as historically BU has little stretches of being more down than SJU does, so SJU will probably see seasons where they don't have a close game until a couple rounds into the playoffs.

Completely off track, here's a soul version of AC/DC's Back in Black someone created with one of the song generation models going around.  I would definitely pay to watch a band like this.  Crazy how good these are getting.
