If those are the rules then I was out weeks ago...the wife finds it cold under 70.

DuffMan

Got home from work, and the wife complained how cold it is in the house.  I told her I think we can make it till at least Thanksgiving.  ;D

Quote from: hazzben on October 19, 2025, 12:41:23 PMHot Carls at SJU is the sneaky intriguing matchup of the week (season?) in the MIAC.
I'm predicting 42-20 SJU.

Well, for a score predition I admittedely pulled out of thin air, I'm awfully close to what the composite score predictions expect for this Saturday:
SJU 44 - Carl 18.4

Now watch it's 24-20 or 48 - 6 ...

6-3. One touchdown, 1pt safety on XP for other team, and a normal safety (This is stupid and will not happen)
Credit to the Knights for their perceived improvement. I do believe they are a better squad this year.
That being said it seems like the remainder of the league has taken a step or five back and we'll have to see if Carleton is able to provide the Johnnies a competitive matchup.
My prediction, and I don't frequently make them, is something like 52-7 maybe 10? If the Cobbers couldn't score more than 2 field goals at home last week I just can't see Carleton more than 10 in Collegeville.

Redtooth

At approximately 10pm last evening a survival decision was made......the heat was turned on so I'm out......the night before we had dropped to 60 in the house and the dog spent the night scratching the hell out of her plastic kennel liner in an attempt to fluff up her imaginary blanket.

DuffMan

Redtooth out?!?!  Incredible.
I'm close.  Even I will admit it was chilly in the house this morning.

To me Saturday is the beginning of the real test of how Curtis stacks up as QB in the top Tier of the MIAC. He's averaging 321 yds/game passing and playing very efficiently. But against UWW he threw for 202, 1 TD, and 2 INT's. It's a massive outlier (410 ypg against non UWW comp), and also the only Top 40 competition they've faced.

He's feasted on the bottom 5 pass defenses in the league in Pass D and pass D efficiency. The closing stretch run is against the best Pass D's: SJU (1), Augsburg (4), BU (3), and Concordia (5). Carleton is 2nd, so also a telling where that numbers ends up post SJU and BU games.

My guess is he plays better than UWW, there's a confidence factor that's been building. But it'll be under 300 yds passing, and he's facing an SJU team in playoff mode.

He's got a great story, I honestly hope he keeps balling out, minus a victory over Bethel. But I've also seen this story before, where Carleton or GAC start out with a great record and then face the better teams and come crashing back down to earth.

The TD vs.  UWW was early in the game and the Carls had a big near miss/drop a series or two later that could have kept things closer.

Journell seems like a good fit for that program and recruits fairly well. Would not be surprised if it is together than some of the predictions.

Carls' air game appears better than Delta's, at least tonight. Hoping to make the game but stuck in the Sky Club at DCA. Decent beer at least.

I think that 2 stalwarts like Redtooth dropping out before the awarding of the Golden Thermostat trophy and Duffman stating that he may be close, is as good of a sign of a colder than normal winter coming than anything put out by the Farmer's Almanac or the collective meteorologists of KMSP, KSTP, WCCO and KARE.

Change your furnace filters and dig out the flannel sheets everybody, the sure signs are there.

Meanwhile, the competition continues. As Dusty would say "Developing....."

Yeah after the relatively balmy/snowless winters the past couple of years, I think we are in for some pain.

We are officially out this morning. My wife said it was fine during the week when we were at work and school most of the day, but she is not enduring 63 degree temps all weekend. The fireplace was turned on this morning.

Didn't Curtis get knocked out of the UWW game? I thought I remember some buddies talking about the game and saying that it was close early before one of the key guys got hurt and had to exit.

Well not much there for Carleton-a TD against second team. 97 for SJU is a beast and was in the backfield on every pass play.

DuffMan

Carleton was unable to put any pressure on Feeney, and they paid the price.

Trenches on both sides have improved enough to be in the second tier of the MIAC, but still haven't closed the gap SJU or BU. I believe the trajectory is still pointing up under Journell. Lot easier to recruit for a team that is consistently 7-3/8-2 than 2-8, which was more the norm under the previous staff

Huh, Bethel lost a vote compared to last week's top 25, but still moved up to 4th because Salisbury lost even more votes and dropped to 5th. I believe that 4th in the nation is as high as BU has ever been - others can chime in to correct me if I'm wrong.
