I think if SJU has a combined 100 yards rushing from all backs-they will win going away.

Matt Jung nearly had an INT last night...just barely couldn't corral it as it hit the ground. His motor is just as high as when he was at Bethel, constantly getting involved in every play he can. Unsuprisingly, the Sconnie defense has been playing great the past couple of weeks. Pretty likely he's gonna be locked in as a starter right away next year.

Looks mid-20s and a 40 percent chance of snow for Saturday's game in Collegeville.

Yuck.  It'll be comfortable in the Minnetonka HS gym, where I will be.

Looks like Matt Jung will be back in MN this Saturday playing for the Wisconsin Badgers when they play the Gophers, 10 miles from Bethel, where he helped take BU to the DIII quarterfinals last year. With a noon start for BU on Saturday, he won't be on the sidelines with a 2:30 start against the Gophers.

Looking at end of year stats from MIAC this year - MIAC had ZERO 1,000 yard rushers in the conference this year and only one guy with 10+ rushing TDs. Oh how the times have changed...

Tons of passing TD's around the conference. Gustavus freshman QB actually ended with a nice season. Will be a good player for them.

Yeah, there's definitely a ton of passing going on. For Bethel, Manns and Geebli were both what I'd consider 1k All Region caliber backs. Mann's still almost got there with 815 yds and 6.2 ypc, Geebli's 5.5 ypc was solid. Strategy with two really good backs was that they wanted them fresh right now, 131 and 101 carries respectively is a lot less wear on the body. Back in the day Johnson, Porta, or Flannery would have been just a little over that combined total.

It's one thing to be St. Olaf and have 3 guys around 500 because none are elite. It's another to have 2 backs that are as good as any Bethel has had, and the luxury of having them fresh in late November.

Hazz, you have gone from "I'm not really sure how the Royals will do this year" to "Best Royals team ever" rather quickly.  ;D

I think based on many factors (Scoring, defense, etc) you could say this is the best BU team ever.

Honestly, I'm surprised how good this group got, this quickly. We are still a super young team, returned just 5 starters. Felt like a ton of upside, but this year might have it's bumps.

Statistically, we are more balanced O & D. Last year the D was insane. This year the O feels more on par, probably owing to Year 2 in Duling's offense.

Youth in the playoffs makes me nervous, but they didn't blink against SJU. Just wish it hadn't been so long since they really got tested. That'll end on Saturday.

It's too early to say that IMO. We are just finally about to find out how they stack up. Rd 1 exit vs. getting to NCC and going toe to toe.

Yeah, you could also make the case that the MIAC is WEAK this year, which I definitely think it is.

Quote from: MapleBBQChicken on November 21, 2025, 12:59:06 PMWhat's up MIAC board...

I'm a long-time D3Boards reader and a somewhat experienced poster on the NESCAC board, having played football at Middlebury College in Vermont. I moved to Minnesota in the summer and recently accepted a (non-football) job at Carleton. I am planning to adopt the Knights as a second D3 team, and I am looking for some info from you all.

First, does anyone have realistic hopes to win the conference in the future other than St. John's and Bethel? Second, I understand that this was a solid season for Carleton, and I am aware of Jack Curtis's incredible story. What else should I know about rooting for the Knights? And is there anything else I should know about the conference as a whole?

Thank you, and I look forward to joining the discussion.
1. No.
2. In your biggest game you're playing for a goat, a cereal bowl and the right to move an eagle.
3. The Tommies should still be playing the Johnnies. Ryan Hoag was a better football player than reality star. You won't be able to tell much of what's going on if you're trying to watch Scholastica's stream. Augsburg can be slippery every couple of years.

I think I'd put my money on 2013 as perhaps their best team ever.  Peterson was slinging it, Hallstrom had an increadible year, with over 1k receiving yards, marquardt rushed for over 1K, Seth Mathis had a monster year on defense.

Unfortuanately didn't stand a chance against NCC after Peterson got hurt the game before and couldn't play.

Agreed...I think BU and / or SJU could get a real eye opener this Saturday. The balance in the MIAC this season was the worst I recall in a long time.
