Baptists and Catholics roll. SJU will have a very tall task with UWRF. Their QB is likely Gagliardi trophy winner, weapons are insane across the field, defense will be best since Bethel.

We will see how good the WIAC actually is next week. That conference gets a lot of cred for not  a ton of deep playoff runs beside UWW dynasty. All of the "experts" have been dogging on talent level of MIAC this year, maybe rightfully so. But maybe Bethel and SJU are just really really good. We shall see

I thought it was an appropriate celebration given the conditions today.

I listened to the announcers on the ESPN feed and they mentioned that they thought if St John's could advance past River Falls that the following game (the quarterfinals) would be back in Collegeville. I hope that's accurate and even more importantly, I hope St John's can defeat River Falls!

Based on NPI seeding, DePauw and Wheaton are lower than St. Johns, so yes if they beat RF they should be hosting round after.

Me too. Iowa crew probably grumpy about a long drive down 35 tonight.

I was pleasantly surprised by SJU's performance, especially considering the conditions.  I was also pleased by the ESPN+ broadcast and the guest wifi in Tonka's high school.  ;D

I legitimately think UWRF could win this whole shebang, so the Johnnies will need to execute to near perfection.

A tradition unrivaled...

Quote from: art76 on November 24, 2025, 09:04:53 PMI think there are at least two possibilities concerning how the MIAC does this year in the playoffs. Both the Johnnies and the Royals literally rip through their opponents this weekend showcasing how good they are as teams, (and how good the MIAC is), or they squeak out wins and/or are defeated and everyone will jump on the bandwagon of how weak the MIAC is/was this year. Obviously, the supporters of our teams are hoping for the former.

So, yesterday I'm at work and able to check in on the scores of the games via the D3 Football scoreboard, and I have to say, as soon as I saw BU up 14 - zip, I was pretty certain they would win by 3 or more scores. The Johnnies, in similar fashion, got off to a good start, and both squads won comfortably. This coming weekend the Johnnies definitely have the tougher row to hoe as they attempt to get by River Falls. BU gets one of the other two WIAC schools still alive in Platteville at home in Arden Hills. Go Royals!

In other news, from D3's week 11 Top 25, teams 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22, and Eastern (who received 5 votes) are still left in the tourney after two rounds.

FWIW it was very confusing as to WHY the penalty was called... the only thing I could come up with was the receiver did not actually attempt to return the ball before doing the snow angel.

Many of the SJU photogs on the sideline were similarly frustrated by the call.

Also one of the reasons I chose to run the snow angel photo as the gallery highlight. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Who write the Bethel-Coe recap in the 2nd round wrap-up article?

https://d3football.com/playoffs/2025/second-round-recap

They incorrectly state that Bethel is playing Alma next week...I know it wasn't pulled from the Bethel Athletics recap, they correctly stated it.

Also a note from the two matchups between Bethel and Coe from last year and yesterday - Coe QB Brady Kelly was sacked 18 times between the two games, 10 and 8 respectively. Drews only twice, both last year.

I was really unimpressed by Kelly, especially considering he was the ARC OPOTY. Someone forgot to tell him it was a playoff game. Probably a dozen times he just laid down rather than take a hit (think Brett Favre on the Strahan "record setting sack"). Key 3rd and long scramble in the first half, chance to dive for the sticks, instead slides to avoid  contact and is marked 4-5 yds short. Again and again he dove for the ground in the pocket before he was tackled. Never once stepped into a pass in the face of pressure. It was bizarre and the antithesis of toughness.
