Back when I lived in Alaska, I'd hunt ducks and geese with a bunch of FBI guys on the tidal flats across Cook Inlet from Anchorage. Great fun. Floatplane access only.

The SAC (a Mac grad from Anoka) saw some guys nearby shoot a swan. Turns out they were a bunch of lawyers. He offered them a choice ... an immediate swan dinner or a call to Fish & Game.

Apparently not the tastiest of waterfowl.

I considered it. I even consulted the wife. We left it off.

Deer, but wild love to do wild hog. I'm glad we don't have them in the area of our family farm where I hunt deer.

Pheasant, I enjoy how active it is. I get a bit bored in the tree stand all day. Wild hog is on the list for sure.

Not that anyone asked, but got done with SJU visit #2 with my oldest Sunday. Prospect camp, we did a Jr Day visit earlier this Spring. Both Dumo and Heckendorf were really great, as much as I'd like to still believe all Johnnies are horrible degenerates.

I will also say, your burgers are much better than Bethel's.

Fun Spring so far, next few weeks will be interesting with NDSU and UWRF Mega Camp on deck. Hoping to get the camps done early so we can enjoy summer and prep for Sr season. It's crazy how much pressure is on these kids to go to every camp under the sun. Very different from when we old farts did this process.

It is crazy. Duff Jr will be a freshman this year, and we had a high school football meeting a few weeks ago. They had a 20 minute presentation on college recruiting. Not to mention the offseason workout expectations. Much different than my late-90's experiences.

Working at a middle school I've heard about kids currently practicing / playing on teams and having games this spring / summer. I've also had kids as young as 7th grade tell me their teams play in "football tournaments" and play as many as 3 games in day (that's insane

My guess would be those are 7v7 related tournaments. There are Winter and Spring leagues for 18U and 16U, and even summer leagues for middle school aged.

I worked with our HS HC to setup an 18U team for Mounds View. My son did a competitive travel one last year after his Soph fb season. But this year with varsity basketball, it was too much to try to do tournaments all over kingdom come. Part of our strategy was that it was better to have our skill guys running our scheme all off-season rather than some frankenstein 7v7 O & D. The skill building stuff was good the first year. But if you do a winter or spring sport, it's impossible to travel to even Fargo or Des Moines for tourney's, much less TX or CA or AZ when you've got a basketball/baseball game on Friday night and 7v7 games on Saturday morning.

We weren't the only ones who took this approach. We competed against teams from Maple Grove, East Ridge, Orono, Forest Lake, St. Thomas Academy, Centennial, etc.
