Quote from: Texas Ole on May 27, 2026, 05:48:39 PMWhat's everyone's favorite thing to hunt?  Love me some dove hunting.  High limits with lots of shooting.  If it flies and dies I am in.  Deer hunting is nice, but in Texas it's not the most sporting of activities in my opinion.  Hoping to do some hog/predator hunting with the thermal scope soon.
Deer, but wild love to do wild hog. I'm glad we don't have them in the area of our family farm where I hunt deer.
Pheasant, I enjoy how active it is. I get a bit bored in the tree stand all day. Wild hog is on the list for sure.

Not that anyone asked, but got done with SJU visit #2 with my oldest Sunday. Prospect camp, we did a Jr Day visit earlier this Spring. Both Dumo and Heckendorf were really great, as much as I'd like to still believe all Johnnies are horrible degenerates. 8-)  I will also say, your burgers are much better than Bethel's.  :o

Fun Spring so far, next few weeks will be interesting with NDSU and UWRF Mega Camp on deck. Hoping to get the camps done early so we can enjoy summer and prep for Sr season. It's crazy how much pressure is on these kids to go to every camp under the sun. Very different from when we old farts did this process.

I know this might sound strange.  But could you please post a few pictures of the UW-RF Mega Camp that's happening tomorrow.  No hurry, but I would be interested in the turnout.  New coach running the camp, but after a Division 3 Championship.  Thanks

Sorry, just saw this. I didn't attend either camp with him. Lots of programs in attendance though from D3, D2, and small D1 levels.

We haven't played "Where Am I?" in a while.  Who's got this one?

Heh.  I knew you were a good chance to get it. I did wonder, though, if we would need to wait for Bobby himself to log in with the answer.

Didn't mean to spoil the fun, I really didn't know. I did know you are "like a rolling stone" around on the Iron Range for a visit. So of course, Hibbing is a must on the tour along with the US Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth.

Was helping my son move into his first home this afternoon and one of his gaming friends shared a quip he learned when working at Carleton a number of years ago that made me chuckle, so I thought I'd share it here. "You may beat us today, but we'll be hiring you tomorrow."

Reminds me of when I lived in Overland Park, KS in KC area. We were Shawnee Mission South, Shanwnee Mission East is Old Leawood, sort of the Edina of that area. A lot of chants while they lost in football or basketball "That's alright, that's ok, you're gonna work for us someday..." I'm guessing it only made beating them that much more enjoyable.

The high school building and the hockey arena there are works of art.

Heh. I was an assistant varsity girls basketball coach during my first 5 years at Apollo. We went up to Hibbing for a holiday tournament. Half of the players rode in the school van that I was driving and I made them listen to Bob from St. Cloud all the way to Hibbing. Then we drove by this very house. The players were not impressed with the music nor the house.

The official scores are now out, and Bethel University has finally been knocked out of the top spot after occupying it for four straight years. The University of Minnesota, Main Campus won this year's Upper Midwest Rocket Competition. Bethel University came in second place, and Cedarville University from Ohio came in third place.

Teams in this year's competition

1. University of MN, Twin Cities Rocket Team
2. Bethel University
3. Cedarville University

4. Augsburg University
5. Explorer Post 1010
6. Louisiana State University
7. Macalester College
8. Michigan Technical Institute
9. Military Technical College, Cairo, Egypt
10. Normandale Community College
11. North Dakota State University
12. Pellissippi State Community College
13. University of Iowa
14. University of MN, Gopher Axis
15. University of MN, MnSGC

The three teams that placed are first in this list in the place they finished. The remainder of this list is in alphabetical order – not the order they finished.

This year's competition had three requirements that all the team rockets had to accomplish on flight day.

1. Use two completely different high-powered motors, flown within one hour of one another.
2. Prove on the way up that you could rotate the rocket 90 degrees in one direction, and then rotate it back the opposite direction 90 degrees, and using a camera simultaneously that could view two LED lights attached to the rocket, and in view of the camera  showing when both directions were being initiated.
3. See the light pattern that was laid out on the ground adjacent to the launch pads.

Extra points:
1. Have enough students get or upgrade their high power rocket certifications.
2. Within ten minutes of landing, transmit all your onboard video and data to a receiving computer of some kind.
3. Solve the secret message that was being flashed from the light display that was laid out adjacent to the launch pads.

None of the teams were able to solve the message in the first week following the launch because none of team rockets were able to stay focused on the light display long enough to get the entire message. So the folks running the contest gave all the teams the light patterns in a video to try to solve the code for half of the extra points of this section of extra points.

So you all know, Bethel got the maximum number of extra points because they were able to solve the code once they got the whole message. We had 11 students certify and we were able to transmit the data in time with no problems. Additionally, Bethel was able to get in a total of 25 flights this year because of test and contest flights.

Nice work, Art. Another great result. How long until the rockets are connected in real time to starlink and you need to do a landing and relaunch?
