Quote from: RoyalsFan on August 02, 2026, 06:38:08 PMYou do know that Carlton and St. Olaf are both in Northfield, right? Neither teams fans have to travel and they are huge rivals.

And despite the schools being less than 2 miles apart the game last season had a recorded attendance of 4,319 at Laird Stadium (where there is not charge for admission). Combined the enrollment of the two schools is about 8,000 meaning that it's likely barely 50% of the student bodies of both schools attended the game.

About 5,100 full-time undergraduates combined attend the two schools.
Nor sure where i came up with 8k???
My bad!

No band practice on that side of town.

Free beer!  May have been other factors though with weather and other events on campus.

I get not many Oles attend games. I did. I enjoyed going to the games even during the down years. Sadly I live in Texas now and can't go to many games.

I doubt CC had an impact. If it was the NC possibly given the resources needed. We've hosted the stat championship and still played football those days. I could the request from the Vikings to host the game trying to get more events at their facility.  The Star in Frisco (Cowboys facility)hosts as many HS games as possible.

Still not a fan of moving the game. Hope Olaf still controls the broadcast feed. Huge fan of the quality of that feed.

We don't question statistics that suggest Carleton is better, we just accept them as indisputable truth and move on. But every Carleton-Olaf game @Olaf I remember was packed. Smaller stadium, sure. I will say, the last two times I returned for a home game I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of students who were tailgating the game. I think actually winning games makes it easier to convince classmates, friends, neighbors to move their Saturday drinking across the street for a few hours.

I'll never forget, the year after we graduated, we came back for the game at St. Olaf. We were sipping our beer as we walked to the stadium when a female student yelled "Excuse me! This is a dry campus!"

Sounds to me like she wasn't getting invited to many "dry" party's with the St. Olaf hockey team then.  ;)

Was on campus with the Mrs today and decided to stop by the field to see if the team was practicing yet...no luck, but field looks gorgeous and ready for football.

Just one month to kickoff.

Just got back from the cabin where I listened to the latest podcast sitting by the lake in the shade, enjoying the breeze, and sipping on some sweet tea. Lots of Bethel content. Kind of fun to see the program highlighted - sure hope the guys can live up to all the hype. If they can, it's going to be a fun season to watch.

Anyone know why the Auggies are starting all of their home games at noon?

SAINT JOHN'S FANS, I HAVE A QUESTION.

According to the MIAC release today, MIAC teams can use instant replay reviews during non-conference games.  Does Saint John's play to use it during the game against UW-LACROSSE?

Does Jeopardy still start at 3:30?

The MIAC and WIAC have six of Logan Hansen's top 10.  CCIW has two.  Plus MUC and Johns Hopkins.  Some things never change.

I got this email from SJU yesterday, as I am sure many of you did. Seriously? I think back to when our kids were a little younger and needed backpacks full of activities and snacks to get through the afternoon. Heck, I brought a propane heater a few times!

QuoteNew Clear Bag Policy for SJU Football Games
Dear Johnnie Football Fans,
As you prepare for the upcoming Saint John's football season, we want to make you aware of an important change to gameday entry procedures.
A clear bag policy will be in effect for all Saint John's football games at Clemens Stadium this season.
If you plan to bring a bag into the stadium, it must be one of the following:
  • A clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12" × 6" × 12"
  • A one-gallon clear resealable plastic bag
  • A small clutch bag no larger than 4.5" × 6.5"
Medical, accessibility and diaper bags are permitted and will be subject to inspection.
Backpacks, large purses or totes, coolers, duffel bags, fanny packs, camera bags and other noncompliant bags will not be permitted. Please leave these items in your vehicle before entering the stadium.
To make the transition easier, approved clear bags will be available for purchase beginning with the first home game at the SJU Spirit Shop, football stadium shop and Spirit Shop cart in the tailgating lot.
Thank you for helping us make gameday safe and welcoming for everyone.

Go Johnnies!
