and what are the other scores from around the MIAC?

On the personal foul...I honestly thought Kofoed was going to go down earlier.  This is where he is such a difference-maker.  He kept the play alive and forced the mistake.  The personal foul was certainly unintentional, but correctly called.  I don't think many people in the stadium wanted that call to conclude the game, but the referees did what they had to do...just unfortunate.

It was amazing how the SJU running game really came alive in the fourth quarter.

Obvious turning point of the game - SJU is down by 9 going into Q4.  Kofoed is under serious pressure and throws a duck to the streaking WR on the right.  Weber comes underneath to catch the ball and run it in for the TD.  This is the first play of the 4th quarter against the wind.  This just seemed to change everything.  The Oles were the only team pushing the ball.  Now the Johnnies were within two points.  This play seemed more likely to be an INT rather than a TD.  Great play by Weber.

Lots to comment on...let's get started.

Duff, under no circumstance should be become a bleacher wuss.  Too many Johnnie fans sit passively on their hands and give the occasional golf clap, or they call for Jimmy G's head.....Passionate fans are needed in key situations.  I can remember a few too many times where it sounded like we were playing at a funeral or croquet match.  For those people that don't believe fans and noise make a difference, in today's Montana Grizzlies game Eastern Washington kicks what could/should have been the game winning FG late in the 4th quarter..one problem, delay of game due to the noise moved the ball back five yards, missed FG and the Good Guys end up winning 24-23 in front of 23,500.  I called and talked to my Dad a couple of times before the 4th quarter and the only thing I could hear was one of many "Johnnie Gameday Program" promotions.

It sounds as though it was a very evenly matched ballgame with the Potato Oles having a slight edge until the 4th quarter burst.  In reviewing the stats two things jumped out as differnce makers;

QB Completion %
AK 66%  28-43 318yrds 3TDs 0Ints
MP 37%  17-44 216yrds 1TD 1Int

I realize Alex threw some balls that looked like they were ready for the waterfowl opener....ducks and wobblers, but huge difference in this stat.

Schmeising 1 reception for 5 yards ???

Didn't the Mighty Meidt call Schmeising and Grant "two of the best receivers in the country" this week?  Strange use of one of the best....especially after the punt return for TD.

Zip, good guess on the identity...color 94-98, oline coach 99-04, retired/fan (moved to MT) 05-current.  I appreciate your respect for my analysis.

Rumor has it that #72 RT SJU provided a "LOOK OUT :o" block that would have made Ritz (also #72) proud ;)  Sounds like John gave him an earful when he came off the field and sat him for awhile.

faunch

Ponder this.

SJU made poor use of their timeouts to end the 1st half....couldn't we have gotten one shot in the endzone?  At about the 20+ second mark we  let time run instead of using a time out.

On the Weber TD to start the 4th quarter....didn't the intended SJU receiver get held (or pass interference)?
Thoughts anyone?

Credit where credit is due:

SJU56321...your comments were right on this week and thanks for not ripping on Kofoed...he played well, not great and his WR's could have helped him a bit more... as for meeting me before a game, probably not going to happen, you will have to settle for knowing me here

St. Olaf is a very, very good football team, they made adjustments from the last time the J's played them and it showed...they are solid on D, their LB's are very good however they have corners that can be picked on..their WR's don't like going over the middle, they are somewhat scared of contact, that hurt them a little.  Their offensive line did very well against the J's D line...

They could make a run to the playoffs no doubt...hopefully after two nail biters, the J's return to form next week at Gustavus.

Thanks to all at the SJU tailgating festivites or Stiftungfestivies, or whatever they call it... It was great to meet all of you, nothing but classiness, and beer.  Also, such a great game and a perfect october afternoon.  Obviously, both teams caught breaks at different times...they both could have played better at points.  Honestly though, i really felt olaf was the better team today...muffing an extra point snap, and field goal snap, meant the game...
Moreover, great atmosphere, great opponent, and great players.  Hopefully both make the playoffs, and olaf will come out Conference Co-Champs when the Johnnies lose to Bethel...

Special thanks to Johnnie Red, TC, MR SHoes, SjuSection105, Duffman, Finsleft, and whoever i missed.... Great Game!
Um YA YA!

Glad you enjoyed the experience.  The game seemed to be owned by quarters...Olaf owned the third quarter, while SJU owned the fourth quarter.

If Olaf doens't muff the extra point, SJU doesn't go for 2 and just takes the PAT.  I can counter your field goal snap with a fumbled kickoff return that Olaf converted into a TD.  Both teams had breaks go for and against them.  The game was as even a game as I have seen in a long time.  I hate the cliche, but it was unforuntate that either team should have to lose.

Go Johnnies.

I will admit that my prediction about the game was wrong.  It sounds like both teams made mistakes, but I am really tired of St. Olaf commiting personal fouls like it is a basketball game.  It will prevent this team from going to the next level.

Since I was not able to see the game could someone from SJU please give me a serious opinion about whether or not Olaf is playoff quality team?  I would love to get some more feedback from this game.  I think it is a much improved team from previous years, but I want an outside opinion.  Thanks.

stanbob

I would say so, but then we always get into the weak sister conference debate.  Bethel has done nothing for the MIAC getting two in.

The key reason for SJU owning the 4th quarter was the departure of Hutchins with an apparent ankle sprain. With him gone, it opened up all of the field to Kofoed & Co, rather than limiting themselves to the half he wasnt defending. The dude is as good a DB as I've seen in the MIAC.

VERY impressed with Olaf-- Watkins looks like a powerhosue RB, Penz was electric- the kid has a cannon of an arm and a ton of poise-  and the Olaf D was better than advertised. Schmiesing's RP TD was plain sick....no one got within 10 feet of touching him.

SJU D was disappointing at times but came through enough under the gun to save the day. Patnode was The Man on offense...without him, SJU woulda been sunk. Kofoed looked good, not great, but like SJU, he was good enough for a "W".

Damn, no 0-10 at Summit...so much for regime change, I guess  :(

St. Olaf is a playoff caliber team and I hope they make the playoffs.  As one poster pointed out, Brothel (Bethel) has done nothing when it has made the playoffs even though it had very good teams.  Concordia did a good job when it made the playoffs, however, so the MIAC should be getting more respect.  The WIAC has to be the favored conference, in my opinion, for getting two teams in the playoffs.  The LaCrosse and Wartberg losses today will really help St. Olaf provided St. Olaf does not lose again.   If St. Olaf wins out, I think their in as a pool C bid.  Scary team.  The game was a good close game.
