The hats and decorations are just as cool, it's just that the members don't know or remember that they are. :)

IWU70 . . . and counting.

The Elmhurst/IWU game Saturday is a 7:30 start. Check both schools' websites for verification. Matt Roth doesn't get much playing time at Indiana. Several CCIW schools recruited him but getting a D1 scholarship (I assume) at a Big 10 school and playing few minutes still is understandable.
Matt Roth's playing time has increased at Indiana of late, as well it should.  I believe he was a walk-on at first, but eventually earned a scholarship at IU.  He's graduated and is now a graduate student in sports administration.  He has another year of eligibility but no more scholarship.
You'll never walk alone.

Quote from: iwu70 on January 19, 2012, 03:21:36 PMAugie is going to continue to struggle unless they can get some decent perimeter shooting.

See my notes above. Augie shot 7-17 (41%) against NPU on Tuesday. Having Roth out there for 25 minutes as a third guard made a huge difference. Expect to see a lot more of Roth paired with DeSimone and Rorer in a three-guard lineup for Augie henceforth.

Yet Roth was 1/8 against North Central, including 0/7 from 3. He does like to shoot though. Those 8 shots came in only 7 minutes of action.
Maybe he isn't used to shooting against a zone?

your pithy comments are missed.  please return to this room and give us the what-for.

Don't know if you realize this , but since you don't post here on a consistent basis you can't inquire about the whereabouts of
another poster.

Again, 74impala, I appreciate the love, but it seems one of the most prolific posters of all time hasn't been seen since before his team's most recent loss, and I haven't seen any inquires from you as to his whereabouts or well being. He'll think you don't love him as much as me!  ;)

This year he is averaging over 11 minutes and 5 points per game.  Obviously not a starter, but it seems a vital cog in that teams success.

Matt Roth is one of the purest shooters with some of the best range you will ever see in basketball. When he was at Washington High, he set the state record for three-pointers in a career and ended up around 5th nationally in that category. He can hit from anywhere on the floor; saw him nail a pull-up jumper from halfway between the arc and mid-court like it was nothing, and he did it just because he could. Matt was recruited by Kelvin Sampson at IU before he got canned. His average athleticism has held him back at major D1 level, but make no mistake, a tremendous gunner.

Don't worry cciwrabblerouser, I am pretty sure you just got caught in the middle of a little good natured, sarcastic in-fighting.

Titan Q

Finally home tonight from a long work trip to New Orleans this week.  I've decided that four nights in the French Quarter is even harder to handle than four nights on the Las Vegas strip.  Glad to be home.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) I was not able to follow the IWU @ NCC game at all Tuesday.  I was disappointed to learn that the Titans got dominated so thoroughly.  IWU plays a very important game @ Elmhurst tomorrow...they'll need to find a way to grind out a road win.

The CCIW race is great right now.  As I see it, six teams are still in the mix for the championship...

Illinois Wesleyan: 4-1
Wheaton: 4-1
North Central: 4-1
Elmhurst: 3-2
Augustana: 2-3
Carthage: 2-3

Thanks to sac for pointing me to the Hoopsville archive of last night's show...

Hope head coach Matt Neil told Hoopsville that Hope and Illinois Wesleyan will be playing each of the next three seasons - 2012-13 in Florida (presumably between Christmas and New Year's), 2013-14 @ Hope, and 2014-15 @ IWU.

Very, very cool.  I'm excited that Ron Rose and Matt Neil worked this out.

Agreed. :)

My regret is that Hope and IWU didn't work out a deal when they had battling women's AA centers both initialed CS (Christina Solari and Carrie Snikkers).  Perhaps they both thought they would meet in the Final Four, but, alas, it never happened.  I would have gone to Holland or Bloomington to see that battle! ;D

Looking forward to the big games at Elmhurst tonight -- in a few hours.

Pgraph piece today indicates that Molinari has been cleared now and is available tonight for the Elmhurst game.  Don't know if he'll be back in the rotation as he was earlier, but surely nice to know he has recovered and is available.

Also Pgraph reported that Solari and Hasselbring will be back, available for the big showdown between the IWU and EC women.  That's very good news.

GO TITANS!!!

Glad I opted to take the wife on a date to see The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo this afternoon instead of attending the Viking hoops game by myself.  (Shall I milk this one by saying, "Honey, I missed a nailbiter, but the time spent with you was time well spent.?")  Uffda!

BTW.  Black Hawk Hjalmarsson (and Stanley Cup winner) brought a bevy of teammates and family to Tre Kronor to the Christmas Jul Bord.  Tre Kronor, one could argue, is the place to go before a Viking game, surpassing The Pit, aka, Charcoal Delights.  'Tis not the first time the Swede has feasted on "home" cuisine for sure.  Patty, the owner, asked me if I knew the identity of the player who does not yet shave.  I replied that it could have been Toews or Kane.  She then remembered the name of the former.

Bite your tongue. Yeah, Tre Kronor is a great restaurant, with the best Swedish pancakes in town, and, like the Pit, it's a sponsor of NPU men's basketball. But, still ... bite your tongue, Mark.
