Yeshiva got screwed. That was not a kicked ball with 4.2 secs left.

Not even close.

I said "Ball don't lie" when they got the steal off the ensuing inbounds, but I'm really curious what was said to draw the T there.

The CCIW came ohsoveryclose to suffering its second loss of the day to an opponent with a losing record, but Yeshiva's Or Sundjyvsky did Illinois Wesleyan a big solid by committing a self-destructive technical foul with 1.6 seconds left, turning what would've been an almost sure YU win -- Sundjyvsky had been fouled hard by Karlo Colak going to the rim after stealing the ball at midcourt following the inbound after the highly-questionable kicked-ball call -- into a loss, as Casen Lawrence made both tech FTs and Sundjyvsky made the first of his personal-foul FTs at the other end but missed the second for a 72-71 final in favor of the Greenies. Mason Funk led the way with 20 and 7 for IWU, Lawrence contributed 14, Noah Cleveland had 12 and 16, Colak pumped in 11 and had a nice 5:0 floor game, and Brady Kuehl added 10 off the bench.

The Titans, as expected, crushed Yeshiva on the boards -- but they were sliced and diced by the Maccabees on countless backdoor cuts. Yeshiva, in turn, threw the ball away a ton; just a whole bunch of unforced turnovers by the hosts in a matchup where they really couldn't afford careless ball protection.

Two kudos: First, Yeshiva's production quality is outstanding. Multiple cameras in a tiny gym make for an outstanding viewing experience, and the YU production crew is obviously very experienced and adept at cutting back and forth to give the best angles. Second kudo goes to Noah Cleveland, who for some reason was interviewed by the Yeshiva sideline reporter after the intense conclusion of a game in which there was obviously some bad feelings (not between the players or the coaches but between the Maccabees folks and the officials). Cleveland was very diplomatic and had the good sense to refuse to talk about the end of the game.

Whatever it was, Sundjyvsky should've said it in Hebrew instead of English. I always tell North Park's international soccer players that if they're going to say something uncouth within earshot of a ref, say it in Swedish or Norwegian. ;)

I agree, Yeshiva got screwed with the bad call on the "kicked ball."  It wasn't.   Bad way to end the game with the T, missing a FT.  Bad feelings all 'round.  IWU lucky to escape with a W. Tense situation at the end, with the player who missed the FT going out on the court toward the referees at the end, some others restraining him.  Too bad it ended that way, the officials largely determining who won the game and making bad calls.  There were others earlier too.

Aww, Mark, I had my fingers crossed that you were going to try to spell "Sundjyvsky". ;D
